George Fenton has been hired to score the upcoming revenge thriller Hard Powder. The film is directed by Hans Petter Moland (Aberdeen) and stars Liam Neeson, Laura Dern, Emmy Rossum, William Forsythe, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Domenick Lombardozzi and Tom Bateman. The movie is based on Moland’s 2014 feature In Order of Disappearance and follows a snowplow driver and pillar of his Colorado community whose life is up-ended by his son’s killing at the hands of a powerful local drug lord. Frank Baldwin wrote the screenplay.

Theodore Shapiro has been tapped to score the upcoming animated comedy Spies in Disguise. The film is directed by Nick Bruno & Troy Quane and features the voices of Will Smith and Tom Holland. The movie is based on the 2009 short Pigeon: Impossible and revolves around a secret agent who nearly triggers a global conflict when a pigeon gets stuck in a government-issued nuclear briefcase. Michael J. Travers (The Peanuts Movie) is producing the Blue Sky Studios production.

Christopher Lennertz has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming crime comedy The Happytime Murders. The film is directed by Brian Henson and stars Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale and Elizabeth Banks. The movie follows two clashing detectives with a shared secret, one human and one puppet, who are forced to work together again to solve the brutal murders of the former cast of a beloved classic puppet television show. Todd Berger has written the screenplay based on a story by himself & Dee Austin Robertson.

Christopher Willis is set to reunite with director Armando Iannucci on the upcoming The Personal History of David Copperfield. The movie follows a former computer programmer who makes extra cash chauffeuring a low level drug dealer around town and finds himself in a serious financial bind and decides to kidnap the dealer’s child.

Keegan DeWitt is reteaming with Alex Ross Perry to compose the score for the upcoming drama Her Smell. The film written and directed by Perry and stars Elisabeth Moss, Cara Delevingne, Dan Stevens, Amber Heard, Ashley Benson, Agyness Deyn, Gayle Rankin, Eric Stoltz, Virginia Madsen and Dylan Gelula. The movie centers on the maniacally destructive punk rock star and leader of the seminal all-female rock band Something She.
Michael Giacchino to Score Drew Goddard’s ‘Bad Times at the El Royale’
Michael Giacchino has signed on to score the upcoming thriller Bad Times at the El Royale. The film is written and directed by Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods, The Martian) and stars Jeff Bridges,Chris Hemsworth, Cynthia Erivo, Cailee Spaeny, Dakota Johnson, Lewis Pullman and Jon Hamm. The movie follows seven strangers, each with a secret to bury, who meet at Lake Tahoe’s El Royale, a rundown hotel with a dark past. Goddard is also producing the project with Jeremy Latcham. Bad Times at the El Royale is set to be released in theaters on October 5, 2018 by 20th Century Fox.

Bear McCreary is scoring the upcoming thriller Welcome Home. The film is directed by George Ratliff (Joshua, Salvation Boulevard) and stars Aaron Paul and Emily Ratajkowski. The movie revolves around a couple who spends a weekend at a vacation rental home in the Italian countryside in an attempt to repair their relationship, but soon become victims of the homeowner’s sinister plans. David Levinson wrote the screenplay. Allan Mandelbaum (The Good Neighbor) and Tim & Trevor White (Ingrid Goes West, LBJ) are producing the Voltage Pictures production.

Screen Daily is reporting that Gary Yershon is in talks to score the upcoming British comedy Brighton. The film is directed by Stephen Cookson (Stanley A Man Of Variety) and stars Phil Davis, Larry Lamb, Marion Bailey and Ruth Sheen. The movie is based on Steven Berkoff’s stage play Brighton Beach Scumbags and follows two older couples from the East End of London who travel to Brighton having not visited the seaside town in more than 30 years and reflect on how times have changed.
Stephen Rennicks Scoring Lenny Abrahamson’s ‘The Little Stranger’
Composer Stephen Rennicks is reuniting with director Lenny Abrahamson on the upcoming supernatural horror thriller The Little Stranger. The film starring Domhnall Gleeson, Ruth Wilson, Will Poulter and Charlotte Rampling is based on Sarah Waters’ 2009 novel of the same title and takes place in post-WWII Britain, where a doctor revisits a crumbling great house where his mother once worked as a nurse maid and becomes obsessed with marrying one of the owner’s daughters. Lucinda Coxon (The Danish Girl, Wild Target) wrote the screenplay.
