Don Harper (The Lion King 3: Hakuna Matata, Tarzan & Jane, Auggie Rose) has teamed up with guitarist and singer/songwriter Tommy Emmanuel to score the upcoming family drama The Tiger Rising. The film is written and directed by Ray Giarratana and stars Queen Latifah, Madalen Mills, Christian Convery, Sam Trammell, Katharine McPhee and Dennis Quaid. The movie is based on Kate DiCamillo’s best-selling children’s book and follows a reserved 12-year-old boy who is starting a new life in rural Florida at the Kentucky Star Motel, when he discovers a caged tiger in the woods.

James Newton Howard to Score Paul Greengrass’ ‘News of the World’
James Newton Howard (The Hunger Games, The Sixth Sense, King Kong, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Signs, The Fugitive) has been tapped to score the upcoming drama News of the World. The film is directed by Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy/Ultimatum, United 93, Captain Phillips) and stars Tom Hanks, Helena Zengel, Michael Covino, Fred Hechinger and Thomas Francis Murphy. The movie based on the best-selling 2016 novel of the same title by Paulette Jiles is set in the days following the Civil War and centers on the the unlikely friendship between Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd, an early precursor to today’s newscasters, and a 10-year-old girl he is tasked with bringing to her relatives. Luke Davies (Lion, Catch-22) wrote the original screenplay with revisions by Greengrass.
Terence Blanchard to Score Halle Berry’s ‘Bruised’
Terence Blanchard (BlacKkKlansman, Inside Man, Malcolm X, 25th Hour, Da 5 Bloods) has been hired to score the upcoming drama Bruised. The film marks the directorial debut of actress Halle Berry who also stars in the movie as Jackie Justice, a washed-up MMA wrestler who has to conquer her own demons, face one of the fiercest rising stars of the MMA world and and deal with the return of her 6-year-old son. Shamier Anderson, Adan Canto and Sheila Atim are co-starring. Michelle Rosenfarb wrote the screenplay.
John Debney Scoring David E. Talbert’s ‘Jingle Jangle’
This past weekend, John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, Elf, Iron Man 2, The Jungle Book, Cutthroat Island) has started recording his underscore for the upcoming Netflix original film Jingle Jangle. The movie is written and directed by David E. Talbert (Almost Christmas, Baggage Claim) and stars Forest Whitaker, Keegan-Michael Key, Phylicia Rashad, Anika Noni Rose, Hugh Bonneville and Madalen Mills. The musical revolves around an eccentric toymaker, his adventurous granddaughter, and a magical invention that has the power to change their lives forever.
Harry Escott Scoring Clio Barnard’s ‘Ali & Ava’
Composer Harry Escott (Shame, Hard Candy, Welcome to the Punch, A Mighty Heart, The English Game, Deep State) is reuniting with director Clio Barnard on the upcoming British drama Ali & Ava. The film is written and directed by Barnard and stars Adeel Akhtar, Claire Rushbrook, Ellora Torchia and Shaun Thomas. The movie follows the respected matriarch on a predominantly white Bradford estate masking the scars left by an abusive ex-husband and a charismatic son, brother, boss and landlord, still living with his estranged wife but hiding their separation from his family.
Laurent Eyquem Scoring Davide Ferrario’s ‘Just Noise’
Laurent Eyquem (Copperhead, Nostalgia, Winnie Mandela, Rage, Momentum) is composing the original music for the upcoming historical drama Just Noise. The film is directed by Davide Ferrario (After Midnight, We All Fall Down) and stars Harvey Keitel and Malcolm McDowell. The movie depicts the bloody fight by Maltese citizens for their independence against Britain in 1919, just after World War I. Jean-Pierre Magro (Bulgarian Rhapsody) wrote the screenplay and is also producing the project with Pedja Miletic and Aaron Briffa.
Hannes De Maeyer to Score Adil El Arbi’s & Bilall Fallah’s ‘Rebel’
Hannes De Maeyer is attached to score the upcoming Belgian coming-of-age drama Rebel. The film is directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys for Life) and stars Amir El Arbi, Aboubakr Bensaihi and Lubna Azabal. The movie revolves around a 13-year-old Moroccan boy from Molenbeek as he is searching for an identity after his father’s death. El Arbi and Fallah also co-wrote the screenplay with Jan Van Dyck and Kevin Meul. Bert Hamelinck (The Diary of a Teenage Girl, The Rider) and Dimitri Verbeeck are producing the Caviar, Beluga Tree, Calach Films and Le Collectif 64 production. De Maeyer (Rafaël, Torpedo) has previously collaborated with the directors on the features Gangsta, Black and Image.

The Chainsmokers have made their film scoring debut on the upcoming drama Words on Bathroom Walls. The EDM duo has co-scored the movie with composer Andrew Hollander (Waitress, Sleepwalk with Me, Gray Matters, Serious Moonlight). The movie is directed by Thor Freudenthal (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters) and stars Charlie Plummer, Taylor Russell, Andy Garcia, AnnaSophia Robb, Beth Grant, Devon Bostick, Lobo Sebastian, Molly Parker and Walton Goggins. The teen drama is based on Julia Walton’s YA novel of the same title and follows a young adult with raging hormones that has dreams of becoming a chef, when he is diagnosed with mental illness that he keeps secret at his new school.

Bear McCreary has recently scored the upcoming action thriller Ava. The film is directed by Tate Taylor (The Help, Ma, The Girl on the Train) and stars Jessica Chastain, Colin Farrell, Common, John Malkovich, Geena Davsi, Ioan Gruffudd and Joan Chen. The movie revolves around a deadly assassin who works for a black ops organization, traveling the globe specializing in high profile hits. When a job goes dangerously wrong she is forced to fight for her own survival. Matthew Newton wrote the screenplay. Chastain is also producing the project with Kelly Carmichael (The Chaperone), alongside Voltage Pictures’ Nicolas Chartier (The Hurt Locker, Killer Joe) & Dominic Rustam (I Feel Pretty).
Glen Keane’s ‘Over the Moon’ to Feature Score by Steven Price & Original Songs by Christopher Curtis, Marjorie Duffield & Helen Park
Netflix announced today that Steven Price (Gravity, Our Planet, Fury, Suicide Squad, The Aeronauts, Wonder Park) is composing the original score for the upcoming animated musical Over the Moon. Christopher Curtis (Chaplin: The Musical), Marjorie Duffield and Helen Park (KPOP The Musical) have written original songs to the film, which is directed by Glen Keane (Dear Basketball) and features the voice talent of Cathy Ang, Phillipa Soo, Robert G. Chiu, Ken Jeong, John Cho, Ruthie Ann Miles, Margaret Cho, Kimiko Glenn, Artt Butler and Sandra Oh. The movie follows a girl who fueled with determination and a passion for science – builds a rocket ship and blasts off, hoping to meet a mythical moon goddess.
