Trent Reznor scoring ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’

UPDATE (January 11, 2011): Atticus Ross co-scoring ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’

According to a New York Times livestream interview (via Slashfilm), Trent Reznor has announced that he will be scoring David Fincher’s upcoming adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The movie stars Rooney Mara, Daniel Craig, Christopher Plummer, Robin Wright, Stellan Skarsgard and Joely Richardson. The film is based on the bestselling novel by Stieg Larsson, which has been adapted for the screen in a 2009 Swedish movie with the same title and has been released domestically last year with Noomi Rampace’s lead performance receiving lots of positive critical notices. Steven Zaillian (Schindler’s List, American Gangster) is adapting Larsson’s novel for the David Fincher movie. Trent Reznor has been receiving a lot of attention for his score on last year’s The Social Network (including a Golden Globe nomination), which is being re-released in theaters this weekend.

Desplat talking about Harry Potter score

A number of interviews with composer Alexandre Desplat on his score for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 have been published over the last couple of days. AinItCoolNews conducted an interview with the composer talking in detail on how he got involved in the project and his approach to the movie’s score. Daniel Schweiger from Film Music Magazine also did an interview with Desplat talking about working on Harry Potter and also confirming his involvement in involvement in the last part of the series. Finally, the British radio station Classic FM uploaded a short audio interview with the composer where he talks about following the footsteps of John Williams, Patrick Doyle and Nicholas Hooper and working with the LSO, which recorded his soundtrack for the movie.

Ilan Eshkeri scores Ralph Fiennes’ Coriolanus

Ilan Eshkeri recently recorded the score for the upcoming drama Coriolanus. The movie marks the directorial debut of actor Ralph Fiennes who also stars in the movie alongside Gerard Butler, Vanessa Redgrave and Brian Cox. In the movie based on Shakespeare’s play adapted by Oscar nominated screenwriter John Logan (Gladiator, The Last Samurai, The Aviator), a banished hero of Rome allies with a sworn enemy to take his revenge on the city. According to the composer’s Facebook page, the score is in a minimalist contemporary style. No release date has been set yet for Coriolanus, but the movie is expected to open next year.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader soundtrack album announced

Sony Masterworks will release the soundtrack album for the third installment in the Narnia series The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. According to composer David Arnold, the album contains 72 minutes of score, while about 90 minutes of score is featured in the movie. Carrie Underwood also contributes the original song There’s a Place for Us, co-written by David Hodges and Hillary Lindsey, which will be playing during the film’s end credits, but will not be included on the soundtrack album.

New projects for John Debney

John Debney has two new scoring assignments coming up. He will be scoring the thriller The Double, which marks screenwriter Michael Brandt’s (3:10 To Yuma, Wanted) directing debut. Topher Grace, Richard Gere, Stana Katic, Odette Yustman and Michael Sheen lead the film’s cast. The movie centers on a retired CIA operative who is paired with a young FBI agent to unravel the mystery of a senator’s murder, with all signs pointing to a Soviet assassin. The Double is currently being shot and produced by Hyde Park Entertainment. The movie is expected to premiere in theaters in 2011.

Ramin Djawadi on Clash of the Titans

ASCAP recently uploaded a new interview with composer Ramin Djawadi, who just finished working on Clash of the Titans which premieres in theaters this weekend. In the interview, Djawadi talks about his collaboration with director Louis Leterrier, the scoring process on the movie, working with composer/producer Neil Davidge from Massive Attack, his general approach to scoring movies and his work on the TV show Flash Forward, which he is currently scoring. John Frizzell scoring The Roommate

John Frizzell has recently been finishing up work on his score for the Screen Gems thriller The Roommate. In the movie, College freshman Sara played by Minka Kelly is randomly assigned to live in a dorm with another girl named Rebecca (Leighton Meester) who outwardly seems sweet and normal. She soon finds her safety and the lives of those closest to her jeopardized as Rebecca’s strange and increasingly murderous true personality emerges. The movie directed by Christian E. Christiansen also co-stars Cam Gigandet and Billy Zane. The Roommate is scheduled to open on February 4, 2011.
