Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the animated feature Inside Out directed by Pete Docter and featuring the voices of Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Mindy Kaling, Lewis Black and Phyllis Smith. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Giacchino (Up, Ratatouille, The Incredibles, Jurassic World, Star Trek). Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Also opening wide is the comedy drama Dope written and directed by Rick Famuyiwa and starring Shameik Moore, Tony Revolori, Kiersey Clemons, Kimberly Elise, A$AP Rocky, Blake Anderson, Keith Stanfield, Chanel Iman, Quincy Brown and Zoë Kravitz. Pharrell Williams has written the movie’s original songs performed by the fictional band Awreeoh. Also included and Germaine Franco has composed the film’s original score. Columbia Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by Awreeoh, Digital Underground, Naughty By Nature, A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Public Enemy & more. Opening in limited release is the indie dramedy Infinitely Polar Bear written and directed by Maya Forbes and starring Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldana, Imogene Wolodarsky, Ashley Aufderheide, Beth Dixon and Keir Dullea. The film’s original music is composed by Theodore Shapiro (The Devil Wears Prada, Tropic Thunder, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring three tracks from the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie by artist such as George Harrison, Ike & Tina Turner, Brenton Wood, Jerry ‘Swamp Dogg’ Williams & more. Also opening in select cites is the drama Manglehorn written and directed by David Gordon Green and starring Al Pacino, Holly Hunter, Harmony Korine and Chris Messina. Explosions in the Sky (Friday Night Lights, Lone Survivor, Prince Avalanche) and David Wingo (Take Shelter, Mud, The Sitter) have composed the film’s original music. Another limited release this week is the French drama Eden directed by Mia Hansen-Løve and starring Felix De Givry, Pauline Etienne, Vincent Macaigne, Greta Gerwig, Golshifteh Farahani, Laura Smet and Vincent Lacoste. The film features no original score. Hamburger Records has released a soundtrack featuring the electronic music from the movie by artists including Daft Punk, Joe Smooth, Frankie Knuckles, Terry Hunter, MK, Jaydee, Liquid, Jabberwocky, The Orb, Kerri Chandler & more. Also opening in select markets is the horror comedy Burying the Ex directed by Joe Dante and starring Anton Yelchin, Ashley Greene, Alexandra Daddario and Oliver Cooper. The film’s original music is composed by Joseph LoDuca (The Evil Dead, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena: Warrior Princess). Also opening in limited release is the drama The Face of an Angel directed by Michael Winterbottom and starring Daniel Brühl, Kate Beckinsale, Valerio Mastandrea and Cara Delevingne. Harry Escott (Shame, A Mighty Heart, Hard Candy) has composed the film’s original music. Silva Screen Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as Mi Fido Di Te performed by Lorenzo “Jovanotti” Cherubini when the film opened overseas earlier this year. Also opening in select theaters is the indie comedy The Overnight written and directed by Patrick Brice and starring Taylor Schilling, Adam Scott, Jason Schwartzman and Judith Godrèche. The film’s original score is composed by Julian Wass (Hit and Run, Ride, The Pretty One). No soundtrack album has been announced.
