Three new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Already in theaters since this past Wednesday is the fantasy adventure The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones directed by Harald Zwart and starring Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Lena Headey, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Aidan Turner, Robert Sheehan, Kevin Durand and Jared Harris. Republic Records has released a soundtrack featuring the film’s songs by artists including Zedd, Jessie J, AFI and Demi Lovato. Check out our previous article for the full details. The film’s original score is composed by Atli Orvarsson (Vantage Point, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters). A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score has been released on Milan Records. Also opening wide is the comedy The World’s End directed by Edgar Wright and starring Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Rosamund Pike, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine and Eddie Marsan. ABKCO Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by artists including Primal Scream, Blur, The Doors, Kylie Minogue, Soup Dragons, Suede, Pulp, The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and Soul II Soul (click here for the full details). Steven Price (Gravity, Attack the Block) has composed the film’s score. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. The third wide release this week is the horror thriller You’re Next directed by Adam Wingard and starring Sharni Vinson, AJ Bowen, Joe Swanberg, Barbara Crampton, Ti West, Wendy Glenn, Nicholas Tucci, Kate Lyn Sheil, Amy Seimetz and Rob Moran. Wingard has also co-scored the film with Mads Heldtberg, Jasper Justice Lee and Kyle Mckinnon. Joseph Bishara (The Conjuring, Insidious) provided additional music. No soundtrack album has been announced. You’re Next premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2011 and was acquired by Lionsgate for domestic distribution. Opening in limited release is the martial arts epic The Grandmaster directed by Wong Kar-Wai and starring Tony Leung, Ziyi Zhang, Chang Chen, Zhao Benshan, Xiao Shenyang and Song Hye Kyo. The film’s original music is composed by Shigeru Umebayashi (House of the Flying Daggers, In the Mood for Love) and Nathaniel Mechaly (Taken, Colombiana). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the score, as well as two tracks from classic scores composed by Ennio Morricone. Also opening in limited release is the indie drama Short Term 12 written and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Brie Larson, John Gallagher Jr., Kaitlyn Dever, Rami Malek and Keith Stanfield. The film’s original score is composed by Joel P West. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album including the composer’s music, as well as songs by The Tree Ring, The Shivers and other acts performed and featured in the film. Another limited release this week is the thriller The Frozen Ground written and directed by Scott Walker and starring Nicolas Cage, John Cusack, Vanessa Hudgens, Radha Mitchell and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. Lorne Balfe (Megamind, The Bible) has composed the film’s score. Metropolis Movie Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in select markets is the thriller Scenic Route directed by Kevin Goetz & Michael Goetz and starrinb Josh Duhamel and Dan Fogler. Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger has composed the film’s original score. No word on a soundtrack release. Scenic Route follows two friends who are stranded on an isolated desert road and fight for survival as their already strained relationship spirals into knife-wielding madness. Also opening in limited release is the drama Savannah directed by Annette Haywood-Carter and starring Jim Caviezel, Sam Shepard, Bradley Whitford, Jaimie Alexander, Hal Halbrook, Jack McBrayer and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Gil Talmi has composed the film’s original score. Konsonant Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s orchestral music earlier this week. Finally, also receiving a limited release is the dramatic thriller Dark Tourist directed by Suri Krishnamma and starring Michael Cudlitz, Melanie Griffith, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Suzanne Quast. Austin Wintory (A Little Help, Captain Abu Raed) has composed the film’s original No soundtrack album has been announced yet, but visit Soundcloud for a track from the score. The movie about a disturbed man who is retracing the footsteps of his favorite serial killers is being released by Phase 4 Films and is also available on VOD.
