The only movie opening nationwide this week is Solo: A Star Wars Story directed by Ron Howard and starring Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Paul Bettany. The film’s original score is composed by John Powell (How to Train Your Dragon, The Bourne Identity) and John Williams (Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark) contributed the Han Solo theme. Opening in limited release is the sci-fi comedy How to Talk to Girls at Parties directed by John Cameron Mitchell and stars Elle Fanning, Alex Sharp, Nicole Kidman and Ruth Wilson. Nico Muhly (The Reader, Margaret), Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xiu and Matmos have written original music for the film. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the original music, as well as tracks by The Damned, The Dyschords, The Velvet Underground, A.C. Newman & others. Opening in select theaters before being released on VOD next week is the biographical drama Mary Shelley co-written and directed by Haifaa Al-Mansour and starring Elle Fanning, Maisie Williams, Bel Powley, Douglas Booth, Joanne Froggatt and Stephen Dillane. The film’s original music is composed by Amelia Warner (Mum’s List). Universal Music Classics/Decca Gold have released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today.
