Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the horror thriller Happy Death Day directed by Christopher Landon and starring Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine, Charles Aitken and Laura Clifton. The film’s original music is composed by Bear McCreary (10 Cloverfield Lane, The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica, Outlander, Colossal). Also opening wide is the action thriller The Foreigner directed by Martin Campbell and starring Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan. Cliff Martinez (Drive, Solaris, Traffic, Contagion, The Knick, Sex, Lies and Videotapes) has composed the film’s original music. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Also opening nationwide is the biographical drama Marshall directed by Reginald Hudlin and starring Chadwick Boseman, Josh Gad, Kate Hudson, Dan Stevens, Sterling K. Brown and James Cromwell. The film’s original score is composed by Marcus Miller (Boomerang, Everybody Hates Chris, Two Can Play That Game). Warner Bros. Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the original song Stand Up for Something by Andra Day feat. Common (co-written by Diane Warren). The fourth wide release this week is the drama Professor Marston and the Wonder Women written and directed by Angela Robinson and starring Luke Evans, Rebecca Hall, Bella Heathcote and Connie Britton. Opening in limited release is the biographical drama Goodbye Christopher Robin directed by Simon Curtis and starring Domhnall Gleeson, Margot Robbie, Will Tilston, Kelly Macdonald, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Alex Lawther. The film’s original music is composed by Carter Burwell (Carol, Fargo, Twilight, Being John Malkovich, In Bruges). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in limited release this weekend before expanding to more markets over the next couple of weeks is the drama Breathe directed by Andy Serkis and starring Andrew Garfield, Claire Foy, Hugh Bonneville and Tom Hollander. Nitin Sawhney (The Namesake, Lila Says) has composed the film’s original music. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in select cities is the drama 6 Below: Miracle On The Mountain directed by Scott Waugh and starring Josh Hartnett and Mira Sorvino. The film’s original music is composed by Nathan Furst who previously scored Waugh’s Act of Valor and Need for Speed. The composer also co-wrote the original song I’ve Been Tested with Beth Waugh who is performing the track. A digital soundtrack release featuring Furst’s music is in the works. The movie, which tell the true story of former professional hockey player Eric LeMarque who was stranded atop a Mountain for eight days, is being released by Momentum Pictures.
Opening in select theaters while also being released on Netflix today is the comedy drama The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) written and directed by Noah Baumbach and starring Adam Sandler, Dustin Hoffman, Ben Stiller, Grace Van Patten, Elizabeth Marvel and Emma Thompson. Randy Newman (Toy Story, Avalon, The Natural, Monsters Inc., Cars) has composed and performed the film’s original music.
