Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the James Bond movie Spectre directed by Sam Mendes and starring Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear, Christoph Waltz, Léa Seydoux, Monica Bellucci, David Bautista and Andrew Scott. Thomas Newman (American Beauty, Skyfall, The Shawshank Redemption, Finding Nemo) has composed the film’s original music. Decca Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as an instrumental version of the movie’s title song, Writing’s on the Wall by Sam Smith. Also opening wide is the animated feature The Peanuts Movie directed by Steve Martino and based on the comic strip by Charles M. Schulz. The film’s original music is composed by Christophe Beck (Frozen, Ant-Man, The Hangover, Edge of Tomorrow). Epic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as an original song performed by Meghan Trainor, a track by Flo Rida feat. Opening in limited release is the drama Spotlight directed by Tom McCarthy and starring Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Liev Schreiber, John Slattery, Stanley Tucci, Brian d’Arcy James and Billy Crudup. Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings, The Silence of the Lambs, The Departed, The Hobbit, Hugo) has composed the film’s original music. Already playing in limited release since this past Wednesday is the period drama Brooklyn directed by John Crowley, written by Nick Hornby and starring Saoirse Ronan, Domhnall Gleeson, Emory Cohen, Jim Broadbent and Julie Walters. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Brook (Into the Wild, The Fighter, Perks of Being a Wallflower). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in select cities is the drama Trumbo directed by Jay Roach and starring Bryan Cranston, Helen Mirren, Diane Lane, Louis C.K., John Goodman, Elle Fanning, Michael Stuhlbarg, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Alan Tudyk and David James Elliott. Theodore Shapiro (The Devil Wears Prada, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Spy, Tropic Thunder) has composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as classic tracks by Big Jay McNeely and Billie Holiday. Opening in around 300 theaters is the indie drama Miss You Already directed by Catherine Hardwicke and starring Drew Barrymore, Toni Collette, Dominic Cooper, Paddy Considine and Jacqueline Bisset. The film’s original score is composed by Harry Gregson-Williams (The Martian, The Chronicles of Narnia, Shrek). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring a tracks from the score, two original songs written by Oscar nominee Diane Warren and performed by Paloma Faith and Labrinth, as well as tracks by R.E.M., Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Moby with Damien Jurado & more. Also opening in select theaters is the dramatic thriller Lost in the Sun written and directed by Trey Nelson and starring Josh Duhamel, Josh Wiggins and Lynn Collins. Daniel Hart (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, Return to Sender, Comet) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. Lost in the Sun follows a small time crook who finds an unlikely accomplice in a newly-orphaned teenage boy and drags the kid on a string of robberies. The movie is being released stateside by Entertainment One and is now also available on VOD.
Also opening in limited release is the adventure drama Theeb directed by Naji Abu Nowar and starring Jacir Eid, Hassan Mutlag, Hussein Salameh, Marji Audeh and Jack Fox. The film’s original music is composed by Jerry Lane. A soundtrack featuring the composer’s score was released this past summer when the movie opened in other territories.
