Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the film adaptation of the young adult novel Divergent directed by Neil Burger and starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Aaron Eckhart, Miles Teller, Zoe Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Ray Stevenson, Jai Courtney, Ashley Judd and Maggie Q. Interscope Records has released a soundtrack for the film featuring the film’s songs, including tracks by by Ellie Goulding, Zedd, Pia Mia feat. Chance The Rapper. M83, Snow Patrol and Skrillex. Also opening wide is Disney’s Muppets Most Wanted directed by James Bobin and starring the Muppets characters, alongside Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell and Tina Fey. Bret McKenzie has written the film’s original songs and Christophe Beck (Frozen, The Hangover) who also scored the 2011 Muppets feature has composed the film’s score. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film performed by the film’s cast, as well as a suite from Beck’s score. Opening in limited release is the sports drama 50 to 1 directed by Jim Wilson and starring Skeet Ulrich, Christian Kane, William Devane, Todd Lowe, Madelyn Deutch and Calvin Borel. William Ross (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, My Dog Skip, Tin Cup) has composed the film’s original music. Momentum RLP Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Also opening in select cities is the crime drama Rob the Mob directed by Raymond De Felitta and starring Michael Pitt, Nina Arianda, Andy Garcia, Michael Rispoli, Samira Wiley and Ray Romano. The film’s origjnal music is composed by Stephen Endelman (De-Lovely, Flirting with Disaster). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as his end credits song Love and the Gun performed by New York jazz singer Tamela D’Amico and songs by Deee-Lite, Staple Singers and Wilson Pickett. Also opening in limited release is the crime thriller Blood Ties directed by Guillaume Canet and starring Clive Owen, Billy Crudup, Marion Cotillard, Mila Kunis, Zoe Saldana, Matthias Schoenaerts, James Caan, Noah Emmerich and Lili Taylor. French singer/songwriter Yodelice has composed the film’s original score. A soundtrack featuring the score, as well as the songs from the movie by The Velvet Underground, Sam Cooke, Little Richard, The Rubettes, Ace Frehley and Lee Moses has been released in France last fall and in the U.S. earlier this week. Another limited release this week is the thriller McCanick directed by Josh C. Waller and starring David Morse, Cory Monteith, Ciaran Hinds, Mike Vogel, Aaron Yoo, Rachel Nichols and Trevor Morgan. Johann Johannsson (Prisoners) has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this year. Also opening in limited release is the documentary The Missing Picture directed by Rithy Panh and about the period when the Khmer Rouge ruled over Cambodia between 1975 and 1979. The film’s original music is composed by Marc Marder. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the film’s score earlier this week. Opening semi-wide in over 700 theaters this week is the God’s Not Dead directed by Harold Kronk and starring Kevin Sorbo, Dean Cain, Shane Harper, David A.R. White, Willie Robertson and Korie Robertson. Will Musser has composed the film’s original score. soundtrack album featuring selections from the score, as well as the film’s songs by artists including Shane Harper, Newsboys, Tricia and Manic Drive.
