Benjamin Wallfisch has been tapped to score the BBC original movie The Thirteenth Tale. The film is based on Diane Setterfield’s novel of the same title and has been adapted for television by Academy Award-winning writer Christopher Hampton (Dangerous Liaisons, Atonement, The Quiet American). The drama is directed by James Kent (The White Queen, Inside Men) and stars Vanessa Redgrave, Olivia Colman, Alexandra Roach, Robert Pugh, Gordon Winter, Sophie Turner and Antonia Clarke. The movie follows a famous novelist with failing health who enlists an amateur biographer to hear her story and ghostwrite her autobiography. David Heyman (Harry Potter series, I Am Legend) and his mother Norma Heyman (Dangerous Liaisons, Mrs Henderson Present) are producing the project. Polly Hill is executive producing for the BBC and Rosie Alison is executive producing for Heyday Films. The Thirteenth Tale is set to premiere towards the end of the year on BBC.
Wallfisch whose recent scores include Hammer of the Gods and Summer in February also has the British drama Desert Dancer coming up. The film is directed by Richard Raymond and stars Freida Pinto, Alfred Molina and Reece Ritchie. The movie is set in Iran and centers on the life of Iranian dancer Afshin Ghaffarian against the backdrop of the 2009 election protests. No word yet on release date for the drama.
