Danny Elfman is set to score the upcoming animated feature How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The film is directed by Pete Candeland & Yarrow Cheney (The Secret Life of Pets) and stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of the title character. The movie is based on Dr. Seuss’ classic tale about the titular grouch who plots to ruin Christmas for the residents of his neighboring village of Whoville. Michael LeSieur (You, Me and Dupree) wrote the screenplay. Chris Meledandri & Janet Healy (Despicable Me, Minions, The Lorax) and Scott Mosier (Free Birds, Dogma, Clerks) are producing the Illumination Entertainment production.

Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the comic book movie Justice League directed by Zack Snyder and starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Ezra Miller, Jason Monoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J.K. Simmons and Ciarán Hinds. The film’s original music is composed by Danny Elfman (Batman, Spider-Man, Alice in Wonderland). Also opening wide is the drama Wonder co-written and directed by Stephen Chbosky and starring Jacob Tremblay, Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson, Izabela Vidovic, Mandy Patinkin and Daveed Diggs. ‘Justice League’ Soundtrack Details
The full details of the soundtrack album for the comic book movie Justice League have been announced. The album features the film’s original music composed by Danny Elfman (Batman, Spider-Man, Alice in Wonderland, Men in Black, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). Also included are songs by Sigrid, The White Stripes and a cover of The Beatles’ Come Together by Gary Clark Jr. & Junkie XL. The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 10, 2017 and as a 2-CD set on December 8 by WaterTower Music. Visit Amazon to pre-order the CD version. WaterTower Music to Release Danny Elfman’s ‘Justice League’ Soundtrack
WaterTower Music will release the official soundtrack album for the comic book movie Justice League. The album features the film’s original music composed by Danny Elfman (Spider-Man, Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Men in Black) who reportedly is using his theme from Tim Burton’s Batman, as well as John Williams’ Superman theme in his score. The soundtrack is expected to be released digitally in November. The CD version is currently set for a release on December 8 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Danny Elfman to Score Tim Burton’s ‘Dumbo’
Danny Elfman confirmed during a press interview promoting his Danny Elfman’s Music From the Films of Tim Burton concert in Mexico City later this month that he will be reuniting with director Tim Burton on the upcoming live-action adaptation of Disney’s Dumbo. The movie starring Colin Farrell, Eva Green, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito and Alan Arkin is based on the studio’s 1941 animated classic of the same title about the young elephant with extraordinarily large ears who develops the skill to fly. Ehren Kruger (The Ring, Arlington Road, Scream 3) wrote the screenplay and is also producing the project with Katterli Frauenfelder, Derek Frey and Justin Springer (Prom).

Opening in most theaters is the 40th anniversary re-release of Close Encounters of the Third Kind directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Richard Dreyfuss, Teri Garr, Melinda Dillon and Francois Truffaut. The film’s original music is composed by John Williams (Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, Jaws). While Arista’s 1998 Collector’s Edition soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score is still available digitally, a new limited soundtrack CD for the movie was announced this week and will be released by La-La Land Records. No word yet on a release date.
Also opening wide is the period drama Tulip Fever directed by Justin Chadwick and starring Alicia Vikander, Dan DeHaan, Christoph Waltz, Holliday Grainger, Jack O’Connell, Zach Galifianakis, Dame Judi Dench, Matthew Morrison, Tom Hollander and Cara Delevingne. Danny Elfman (Batman, Spider-Man, Alice in Wonderland, A Nightmare Before Christmas) has composed the film’s original music. Danny Elfman Scoring Gus Van Sant’s ‘Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot’
Danny Elfman is reteaming with director Gus Van Sant on the upcoming biographical drama Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot. The film is written and directed by Van Sant and stars Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara, Jonah Hill and Jack Black. The movie tells the story of quadriplegic cartoonist John Callahan who became paralyzed following a car accident at the age of 21 and turned to art as a form of therapy, drawing by clutching a pen between his two hands.
Danny Elfman to Return for ‘Fifty Shades Freed’
Danny Elfman will be returning music as the composer for the upcoming sequel Fifty Shades Freed. The film is directed by James Foley (Glengarry Glenn Ross, Confidence) who also helmed this year’s Fifty Shades Darker and stars Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan, Arielle Kebbel, Kim Basinger, Brant Daugherty and Luke Grimes. The movie continues the story from 2015’s Fifty Shades of Grey and this year’s Fifty Shades Darker, which Elfman also scored. Niall Leonard has written the screenplay for the final installment in the trilogy based on E.L. James’ bestselling novel.
Danny Elfman to Score ‘Justice League’
Danny Elfman has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming superhero movie Justice League. Junkie XL aka Tom Holkenborg who co-scored Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice for the DC movie universe was originally scoring the film before director Zack Snyder left the project. Joss Whedon is overseeing additional photography is beginning this week in London. Elfman has previously collaborated with Whedon on Avengers: Age of Ultron. Justice League starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher and Jason Momoa will be released in theaters nationwide on November 17 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Danny Elfman Composing Theme for Universal’s ‘Dark Universe’
Danny Elfman has composed a musical theme for Universal Pictures’ Dark Universe logo. The theme will make its first appearance in from of the inaugural film in the new classic monster series, Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy starring Tom Cruise Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance & Russell Crowe, which will be released in theaters nationwide on June 9. Future titles of the Dark Universe include Bill Condon’s Bride of Frankenstein, which is set to be released on February 14, 2019. Check out a teaser for Dark Universe after the jump.
