Two new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the action comedy Stuber directed by Michael Dowse and starring Kumail Nanjiani, Dave Bautista, Iko Uwais, Natalie Morales, Betty Gilpin, Jimmy Tatro, Mira Sorvino and Karen Gillan. The film’s original music is composed by Joseph Trapanese (OblivionStraight Outta ComptonThe Greatest ShowmanThe Raid series, Arctic). Also opening wide is the horror thriller Crawl written and directed by Alexandre Aja and starring Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper. Max Aruj & Steffen Thum (iBoyWarning Shot) have composed the film’s original music. Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – FalloutThe LEGO Batman Movie, GeniusHome) serves as the project’s score producer. Paramount Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score. Opening in limited release is the drama The Farewell written and directed by Lulu Wang and starring Awkwafina, Tzi Ma, Diana Lin, Zhao Shuzhen, Lu Hong and Jiang Yongbo. The film’s original music is composed by Alex Weston. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in limited release is the comedy The Art of Self-Defense written and directed by Riley Stearns and starring Jesse Eisenberg, Alessandro Nivola and Imogen Poots. Heather McIntosh (ComplianceZ for Zachariah, The Hunt, 6 Balloons) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. Opening in around 200 theaters is the documentary Bethany Hamilton: Unstoppable directed by Aaron Lieber. The film’s original music is composed by Kris Bowers (Green Book, Dear White People, When They See Us, Monsters and Men). No soundtrack album has been released. The movie, which tells Hamilton’s complete and untold story that follows her journey from childhood into motherhood, premiered at last year’s SXSW Film Festival and is being released by Entertainment Studios. Also opening in select cities is the documentary Sea of Shadows directed by Richard Ladkani. H. Scott Salinas (A Private WarThe Ballad of Lefty BrownCartel LandWarrior) has composed the original music for the film, which follows a group of dedicated scientists, high-tech activists, investigative journalists and courageous undercover agents who, along with the Mexican Navy, attempt to rescue the most endangered and elusive whale on Earth while battling vicious Mexican drug cartels and Chinese traffickers. No soundtrack album has been announced. Another opening in select theaters is the indie comedy Sword of Trust co-written and directed by Lynn Shelton and starring Marc Maron, Jon Bass, Michaela Watkins, Jillian Bell, Toby Huss, Dan Bakkedahl, Tim Paul and Whitmer Thomas. The movie features music by Maron originally recorded for his WTF podcast, as well as an original end credits track by himself, Tal Wilkenfield, among others. Also opening in select theaters and on VOD is the documentary Armstrong directed by David Fairhead. Chris Roe (Death of a Gentleman) who previously scored Fairhead’s Mission Control: The Unsung Heroes of Apollo has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the song Flight of Fancy written by Neil Armstrong’s son Mark Armstrong and performed by his granddaughter Kali Armstrong. Another limited release this week is the indie drama Firecrackers written and directed by Jasmin Mozaffari and starring Michaela Kurimsky and Karena Evans. The film’s original music is composed by Casey MQ (aka Casey Manierka-Quaile). A soundtrack EP featuring her score was released earlier this year when the movie opened in Canadian theaters. Also opening in select cities is the crime drama Lying and Stealing co-written and directed by Matt Aselton and starring Theo James, Emily Ratajkowski and Fred Melamed. Giona Ostinelli & Sonya Belousova (The Witcher, The Mist, Sacred Lies, The Romanoffs) have composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. Also opening in limited release is the dystopian thriller Desolate co-written and directed by Frederick Cipoletti and stars Will Brittain, Callan Mulvey and Tyson Ritter. The film’s original music is composed by Nima Fakhrara (The SignalThe PyramidCryptoThe Girl in the PhotographsDetroit: Become Human). Project Smyl Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Also opening in select U.S. theaters is the horror thriller Darlin’ written and directed by Pollyanna McIntosh and starring Lauryn Canny, Bryan Batt, Nora-Jane Noone and Cooper Andrews. Ali Helnwein (Hospitality) has composed the film’s original music. Hood River Entertainment has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as tracks by Art Mechanix, Summer Camp, Dorian Electra & others.
