Walt Disney Records will release the official soundtrack album for the live action feature adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. The album features the songs from the film composed by Alan Menken (Aladdin, Enchanted, Tangled, The Little Mermaid) and featuring lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice. Also included on the release is Menken’s original score, which was arranged by Christopher Benstead. The soundtrack will be released in various versions and formats on March 17, 2017. ‘The Time of Their Lives’ to Feature Score by Stephen Warbeck & Song by Tim Rice
Stephen Warbeck has signed on to score the upcoming British comedy The Time of Their Lives. The film is written and directed by Roger Goldby (The Waiting Room) and stars Joan Collins, Pauline Collins and Franco Nero. Academy Award-winning songwriter Tim Rice (The Lion King, Aladdin, Evita) will be providing an original song and also serves as an executive producer on the project. The movie follows a former Hollywood star who is on her way to crash her ex-husband’s funeral with a friend and becomes involved in a romantic triangle with a reclusive Italian painter. Sarah Sulick (Honeytrap) and Azim Bolkiah (Dark Places) are producing the Bright Pictures and Daryl Prince production.
Alan Menken to Score Disney’s Live-Action ‘Beauty and the Beast’
Walt Disney Pictures has announced today that Alan Menken will be providing the score for the upcoming live action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. The film will also feature new original songs co-written by the composer and Sir Tim Rice, as well as new recordings of the songs from the 1991 animated classic that Menken penned with Howard Ashman. The live action version will be directed by Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, Kinsey, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn) and is set to star Emma Watson and Dan Stevens in the title roles. Luke Evans will portray Gaston, Emma Thompson will star as Mrs. Potts and Kevin Kline as Belle’s father, Maurice. Josh Gad has been cast to play Lefou. Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) is writing the screenplay.
Expanded ‘The Lion King’ Soundtrack Announced
Walt Disney Records has announced a new line of CDs, The Legacy Collection,which will celebrate the anniversaries of a number of Disney classics. The first release is for the 1994 animated feature The Lion King, which coincides with the 20th anniversary of the movie’s release. The album features the songs from the film composed by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice, as well as the film’s original score composed by Hans Zimmer, including 30 minutes of previously unreleased music and demo cues. John and Rice received an Academy Award for their original song Can You Feel the Love Tonight? and Zimmer won his first and only Oscar for his score. The soundtrack will be released on June 24, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Lion King directed by Roger Allers & Rob Minkoff is now also available on Blu-ray and DVD.
Klaus Badelt Scoring ‘Jock’
Klaus Badelt is scoring the upcoming 3D animated film Jock. The film based on Sir Percy Fitzpatrick’s classic book Jock on the Bushveld is directed by Duncan MacNeillie and marks South Africa’s first 3D animated feature film. While Badelt is writing the orchestral score for the film, the movie also includes original songs by Bryan Adams, Alan Menken and Johnny Clogg among other songwriters. Tim Rice (The Lion King, Aladdin) is the principal lyricist of the songs. Bryan Adams is also voicing the film’s central character of the fearless dog Jock who helps his master survive the wild challenges of the 1880s gold rush in the northeast of what would become South Africa. Donald Sutherland has signed on to narrate the film.
