Intrada Records has announced the world premiere release of the complete score for the 1991 sci-fi movie Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Cliff Eidelman has composed the music for the film directed by Nicholas Meyer and starring William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley and Christopher Plummer. The 2-CD set features the complete score written by the composer on one disc and the original 1991 soundtrack album on the other disc. Also included are several alternates plus both trailer scores, to date the only original trailer music recorded for a Star Trek film. Michael Giacchino to Return for ‘Star Trek’ Sequel
ComingSoon.net is reporting that Michael Giacchino has confirmed that he will be returning to score the upcoming (currently untitled) Star Trek sequel. The assignment was expected as the composer has previously scored all of director J.J. Abrams’ previous movies, including the first Star Trek film in 2009. All primary cast members are expected to return for the sequel, including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana. Abrams is co-writing the script with Damon Lindelof (Lost) and Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (Transformers). It has also just been announced that the movie will be shot in 3D and has been set for a release on May 17, 2013. Giacchino has been doing a lot of press in the last couple of days about his score for Super 8, which has been released on Blu-Ray and DVD this past Tuesday. ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ Soundtrack Set released
La-La Land Records has released a new soundtrack set for the sci-fi series Star Trek: The Next Generation. The 3CD-set features more than three hours of previously unreleased music from the show by composers Dennis McCarthy, Jay Chattaway, Don Davis, John Debney and Fred Steiner. Star Trek: The Next Generation created by Gene Roddenberry and starring Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, Denise Crosby and Wil Wheaton aired from 1987 to 1994 and was the longest-running Star Trek series.
