Adrian Belew is composing the music for the upcoming Pixar short Piper. The film is directed by Alan Barillaro and follows a beach-dwelling bird who encounters a small hermit crab who teaches her the way of the waves. The project marks Barillaro’s first film as a director. He previously served as a the supervising animator on Pixar’s Wall-E and Brave. Belew is best known as the guitarist and vocalist of the progressive rock band King Crimson.

Walt Disney Records to Release ‘Finding Dory’ Soundtrack
Walt Disney Records will release the official soundtrack album for Pixar’s animated feature Finding Dory. The album features the film’s original music composed by Thomas Newman (Wall-E, American Beauty, The Shawshank Redemption, Skyfall, Bridge of Spies) who previously scored 2003’s Finding Nemo. Randy Newman to Score Pixar’s ‘Cars 3’
Randy Newman revealed in an interview with The Advertiser that he is set to compose the music for Pixar’s upcoming animated feature Cars 3. Owen Wilson is expected to return to voice Lightning McQueen, while Larry the Cable Guy is expected to reprise his role as Mater. No plot details have been revealed yet, but the film is said to feature a tribute to Hayao Miyazaki’s movie The Castle of Cagliostro. No director has been announced, but John Lasseter who directed the first two parts will be producing the project. Newman previously scored 2006’s original cars film, while Michael Giacchino composed the music for the 2011 sequel.

Jeff Danna Co-Scoring Pixar’s ‘The Good Dinosaur’
Jeff Danna has joined his brother Mychael Danna to co-score Pixar Animation Studios’ upcoming feature The Good Dinosaur. The film is directed by Peter Sohn and features the voices of Raymond Ochoa, Jack Bright, Frances McDormand, Jeffrey Wright, Sam Elliott, Anna Paquin, Marcus Scribner, A.J. Buckley and Steve Zahn. The movie is set in a world where dinosaurs have never become extinct and follows a young dinosaur who loses himself after falling into a river, sweeping him far away from his home. Denise Ream (Cars 2) is producing the project and John Lasseter serves as an executive producer. The composers’ music is being recorded this week in Los Angeles.
Soundtrack for Pixar’s ‘Lava’ Released
Walt Disney Records has released the music from the Pixar animated short Lava. The single features the original song from the movie composed by the film’s director James Ford Murphy and featuring vocals by Kuana Torres Kahele and Napua Greig. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out an audio sample. Lava tells a story that takes place over millions of years and is inspired by the beauty of tropical islands and the allure of ocean volcanoes. The animated short is being released in front of Pixar’s Inside Out, which opens in theaters nationwide this Friday, July 19.

The details of the Walt Disney Records Legacy Collection release for Pixar Studios’ 1995 feature Toy Story have been revealed. The album features the film’s complete original score and the movie’s original songs composed by Randy Newman (Monsters, Inc., A Bug’s Life, Cars, Seabiscuit, Avalon). Also featured on a second disc are various piano/vocal demos and instrumental versions of the songs. The 2-CD set will be released on July 10, 2015 to coincide with the film’s 20th anniversary and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Mychael Danna to Score Pixar’s ‘Sanjay’s Super Team’
Mychael Danna has been tapped to compose the music for the upcoming Pixar animated short Sanjay’s Super Team. The film is directed by animator Sanjay Patel who makes his directorial debut and follows a young Indian boy who is watching cartoons on TV and begins “daydreaming a kind of ancient, Hindu version of “The Avengers,” with the gods appearing like superheroes.” Nicole Paradis Grindle is producing the short, which marks Danna’s first project for Pixar Animation and his second animated film following 2007’s Surf’s Up.
