‘Super 8’ Soundtrack Details

UPDATE (July 7, 2011): The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon and iTunes, while the physical CD will be still be released on August 2. Check out audio clips from all tracks on the album below.

Varese Sarabande has announced the details for the soundtrack release for J.J. Abrams’ Super 8. The album features the original score by Michael Giacchino, including one cue not contained in the film. As reported in May, the soundtrack was originally supposed to come out on June 28, but the release date has been pushed back a few times and is now set for August 2, 2011. To pre-order the CD, visit Amazon. Super 8 is produced by Steven Spielberg and stars Elle Fanning, Amanda Michalka, Ron Eldard, Kyle Chandler and Noah Emmerich. The movie has been released on June 10 and is currently still playing in theaters.

Three new movies are opening wide this holiday weekend:

Michael Bay’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon starring Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whitley, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Malkovich, Patrick Dempsey, Ken Jeong, Alan Tudyk, Frances McDormand and John Turturro already opened on Wednesday. The film’s music is composed by Steve Jablonsky. A score album has been released digitally and is available to download on iTunes (check out our soundtrack announcement for more information). Also opening wide this weekend is the Tom Hanks-directed comedy drama Larry Crowne starring Hanks and Julia Roberts. The movie is scored by composer James Newton Howard. A soundtrack album featuring twelve songs from the film and one track of Newton Howard’s score has been released earlier this week on Rhino Records. UCLA’s Hammer Museum has published the full conversation between Michael Giacchino and director J.J. Abrams that took place on June 12 as previously reported on this page. Michael Giacchino’s ‘Up’ Soundtrack released on CD

Intrada Records has announced the premiere CD release of the soundtrack for Pixar’s Oscar-winning animation Up. The film’s music is composed by Michael Giacchino who received his first Academy Award for his original score. The soundtrack was previously only released digitally by Walt Disney Records. Intrada’s new edition marks the first album in a new series of soundtracks on CD, co-branded with Walt Disney Records. To listen to audio clips and order the CD, visit Intrada’s online store. Up is directed by Pete Doctor and centers on an elderly widower (voiced by Ed Asner) and an earnest young wilderness explorer who fly to South America by floating in a house.

Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:

Pixar’s animated film Cars 2 directed by John Lasseter is expected to top the weekend box office. The film’s music is composed by Michael Giacchino. A soundtrack album featuring five songs, as well as Giacchino’s score has been released by Walt Disney Records. Also opening wide is the comedy Bad Teacher directed by Jake Kasdan and starring Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake and Jason Segel. The film’s score is written by Michael Andrews. SoundWorks Collection has published a new profile on the sound and music of Pixar’s Cars 2, which is opening in theaters today. The profile includes interviews with composer Michael Giacchino, re-recording mixer and sound designer Tom Myers, and sound effects editor Al Nelson. Check out the full video after the jump. Michael Giacchino has been doing a lot of interviews lately about his score for Pixar’s animated film Cars 2. The Pixar Podcast recently featured a 30-minute conversation with Giacchino talking about his work on the Pixar film, his collaboration with director John Lasseter, the difference between working on film and TV, his thematic approach and his thoughts on today’s film music. Yesterday afternoon, Michael Giacchino and J.J. Abrams took part in a discussion of the movie industry and their work together at UCLA’s Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. I Heart Woo has uploaded a video of almost 10 minutes from the event. During the conversation, Giacchino and Abrams talk about the director/composer relationship, the composer’s work on their first collaboration on Alias, as well as their thoughts on the ending of Lost. They also discuss their most recent project Super 8 with Giacchino explaining the use of the Hammer B3 organ in the score. Check out the full video after the jump.

Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Super 8 directed by J.J. Abrams, produced by Steven Spielberg and staring Elle Fanning, Amanda Michalka, Ron Eldard, Kyle Chandler and Noah Emmerich is opening in most features music composed by Michael Giacchino. As previously announced on this page, Varese Sarabande will be releasing a score album on June 28. Visit MTV Movie Blog for a video interview with Giacchino from the Super 8 premiere and check out a recent article in Variety about the composer’s newest projects. More interviews are expected to appear in the next couple of weeks.

Also opening wide this weekend is the kid’s pic Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer directed by John Schultz and starring Jordana Beatty in the title role, as well as Heather Graham and Jaleel White. Richard Gibbs has written the film’s score. The music was recorded with an 80-piece orchestra at the Newman Scoring Stage on the 20th Century Fox lot in Los Angeles. Michael Giacchino’s ‘Monte Carlo’ Soundtrack Details

Varese Sarabande has announced the details for the soundtrack release of the teen comedy Monte Carlo. The album includes 40 tracks of Michael Giacchino‘s original score from the film. The soundtrack will be released on June 28, 2011 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon. Monte Carlo is directed by Tom Bezucha (The Family Stone) and stars Leighton Meester, Selena Gomez, Katie Cassidy and Andie MacDowell. The movie tells the story of a girl and her best friend who travel to Paris with one girl’s future stepsister, where one of the girls is mistaken for a spoiled British heiress, which leads the girls to find themselves going on a dream vacation to Monte Carlo.
