Michael Giacchino’s ‘Super 8’ Soundtrack announced

Varese Sarabande Records has announced a soundtrack release for the upcoming sci-fi mystery film Super 8. The album includes Michael Giacchino‘s original score from the J.J. Abrams-directed movie. The soundtrack will be released on June 28, 2011. The album is now available to pre-order on Amazon. More details on the soundtrack will posted in the next couple of weeks as they’re announced. Super 8 is produced by Steven Spielberg and stars Elle Fanning, Amanda Michalka, Ron Eldard, Kyle Chandler and Noah Emmerich. The film takes place in the summer of 1979 and revolves around a group of friends who begin noticing strange happenings going around in their small town and begin to investigate into the creepy phenomenon. The movie will be released on June 10.

‘Cars 2’ Soundtrack Update

A press release from Disney has announced the contents of the upcoming soundtrack release of Pixar’s Cars 2. Apart from 21 tracks of Michael Giacchino‘s original score, the album also includes a song written by the composer and performed by French singer/songwriter Bénabar. The song is called Mon coeur fait vroum (My Heart Goes Vroom) and is providing a musical introduction to Paris in the animation sequel. Also included on the soundtrack is the American alternative rock band Weezer, performing their own take of the 1984 pop hit You Might Think. Country superstar Brad Paisley, who was a major contributor to the first Cars soundtrack, returns with two new songs, including the duet Collisions of World, performed by Paisley and singer/songwriter Robbie Williams. Finally, the hit single Polyrhythm by the Japanese girl band Perfume is also featured on the release. The soundtrack will be released on June 14. To pre-order the album, visit Amazon.

Michael Giacchino’s ‘Cars 2’ Soundtrack announced

Walt Disney Records has announced a soundtrack album for the Pixar animation sequel Cars 2. The album includes Michael Giacchino’s original score from the film. According to the Pixar Blog, there will also be two original songs featured on the album, including a duet by two male artists. The soundtrack will be released on June 14, 2011 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon. A track list for the album will be posted when it gets published. Movieweb recently interviewed Giacchino about the project at a press event at Pixar’s Emeryville, California facility. The composer talked about working with Pixar, his thematic approach, as well as using the surf guitar for the “spy element” of the film. To check out the full interview, visit Movieweb.

Expanded ‘First Knight’ Score released

Earlier this week, La-La Land Records has released an expanded soundtrack album of Jerry Goldsmith’s score for First Knight. The album comes in a 2 disc-set featuring the film’s score, the original 1995 album version and 7 alternate tracks not used in the film. The music has been expanded over the original soundtrack album by more than an hour. Limited to 5000 copies, the 2 CD presentation is now available to order on La-La Land Records’ website, where the album also can be previewed with several audio clips. First Knight is directed by Jerry Zucker and stars Sean Connery, Richard Gere and Julia Ormond.

‘Monte Carlo’ Soundtrack Album Coming

UPDATE (June 1, 2011): The soundtrack is now available to pre-order on Amazon.

The first trailer of the upcoming teen comedy Monte Carlo recently surfaced online. A closer look to the trailer’s credits reveals that a soundtrack album for the film will be released by Varese Sarabande Records. Given the label’s relationship with composer Michael Giacchino, we expect the album to feature the original score from the movie. Monte Carlo tells the story of a girl and her best friend who travel to Paris with one girl’s future stepsister, where one of the girls is mistaken for a spoiled British heiress, which leads the girls to find themselves going on a dream vacation to Monte Carlo. The movie stars Leighton Meester, Selena Gomez, Katie Cassidy and Andie MacDowell. The film reunites Giacchino with director Tom Bezucha who previosuly worked with the composer on the holiday drama The Family Stone.

‘Fringe’ Season 2 Soundtrack announced

Varese Sarabande Records has announced a soundtrack album for the second season of the TV show Fringe. The album includes highlights of Chris Tilton’s score from the show’s 2009/2010 season. The soundtrack also includes Michael Giacchino’s end title theme, as well as J.J. Abrams’ Fringe 85 as a bonus track. The album will be released on April 5, 2011 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon. The third season of Fringe currently airs Friday nights on Fox and the show was just recently renewed for a fourth season.

Michael Giacchino Scoring ‘The Ballad of Nessie’

Michael Giacchino will be providing the music for Walt Disney Animation Studio’s short The Ballad of Nessie. Disney’s press release describes the short as “a whimsical and colorful tall tale about the friendly Loch Ness monster, Nessie, and how she and her best friend MacQuack the rubber duck came to live in the moor they now call home”. Scottish comedian Billy Connolly is narrating the film, which is animated in the classic Disney hand-drawn style. The short movie is directed by Stevie Wermers-Skelton and Kevin Deters who previously worked with Giacchino on 2009’s Emmy-winning animated short Prep Landing. Giacchino also has previously scored numerous shorts for Pixar, including the Academy Award-nominated films Day & Night, Partly Cloudy, Lifted and One Man Band.

Michael Giacchino on ‘Good Morning America’

This morning, ABC’s Good Morning America featured a report on Michael Giacchino in their Countdown to the Oscars series. The composer talks about his working methods, what joining the Academy meant to him and his efforts on mentoring students in Los Angeles. Giacchino has a busy year ahead of him with six movies scheduled for release this year and Andrew Stanton’s John Carter of Mars release date recently being moved forward from a Summer to a March, 2012 release.

Giacchino to score Cars 2

According to a recent article in Variety, Michael Giacchino has started working on Pixar’s animation sequel Cars 2. Giacchino follows the footsteps of Randy Newman, who scored the first part back in 2006. In the sequel directed by Brad Lewis and John Lassetter, racing star Lightning McQueen teams up with his best friend Mater for an international adventure as they go up against the world’s fastest car.  Most of the voice talent of the first movie is expected to return. Cars 2, which marks Giacchino’s third Pixar project after The Incredibles, Ratatouille and Up is slated to come out on June 24, 2011.
