Paramount Pictures has recently unveiled a new logo to commemorate the studio’s 100th anniversary in 2012. The logo first appears in front of Brad Bird’s Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol, which opened in select theaters last weekend and was released nationwide yesterday. Michael Giacchino has written the music for the logo sequence. Apart from the fourth Mission: Impossible movie, the composer also scored the studio’s J.J. Abrams-directed Super 8 this past year. The new logo will be attached to all movies from the studio throughout 2012 and the plan is that the 100th anniversary portion will be removed with the rest of the logo remaining attached to future Paramount releases after 2012. The Sound and Music of ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’
SoundWorks Collection has posted a new profile on the sound and music of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. The video includes interviews with composer Michael Giacchino, director Brad Bird, as well as the film’s supervising ADR editor Gwen Whittle Yates and supervising sound editor Richard Hymns. Check out the full video that also features some footage from the score’s recording sessions after the jump. As previously announced, the soundtrack for the movie is coming out on CD on January 10, 2012 and it has recently already been released digitally and is now available to download on Amazon.
‘John Carter’ Soundtrack Preview
Last night, WQXR’s Movies on the Radio show premiered the first couple of tracks of the score for Disney’s upcoming sci-fi adventure John Carter. The music is composed by Michael Giacchino who recently recorded his orchestral score for the film in Los Angeles. During the one-hour show, Giacchino also talked about his other recent projects, including Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and Super 8. Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the action adventure sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams,Stephen Fry, Jared Harris and Noomi Rapace. The film’s music is written by Hans Zimmer and produced by Zimmer & Lorne Balfe. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. A soundtrack album featuring the movie’s songs performed by The Chipmunks & The Chipettes has been released on Atlantic Records. ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ Soundtrack Details
Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack for Brad Bird’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. The album includes the original music from the movie by composer Michael Giacchino who is scoring his second film in the series and has once again incorporated Lalo Schifrin’s classic theme into his score. The release date of the soundtrack CD has recently been pushed back January 10, 2012. To pre-order the album, visit Amazon. The album will also be released digitally around the film’s opening date. Michael Giacchino to Return for ‘Star Trek’ Sequel
ComingSoon.net is reporting that Michael Giacchino has confirmed that he will be returning to score the upcoming (currently untitled) Star Trek sequel. The assignment was expected as the composer has previously scored all of director J.J. Abrams’ previous movies, including the first Star Trek film in 2009. All primary cast members are expected to return for the sequel, including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana. Abrams is co-writing the script with Damon Lindelof (Lost) and Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (Transformers). It has also just been announced that the movie will be shot in 3D and has been set for a release on May 17, 2013. Giacchino has been doing a lot of press in the last couple of days about his score for Super 8, which has been released on Blu-Ray and DVD this past Tuesday. Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Jim Sheridan’s horror thriller Dream House starring Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz and Naomi Watts features an original score by composer John Debney. Varese Sarabande will release a soundtrack CD including Debney’s score on October 11. The album is also already available to download on iTunes. Also opening wide is the comedy drama 50/50 directed by Jonathan Levine and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, Anjelica Huston, Anna Kendrick and Bryce Dallas Howard. The score from the movie is composed by Michael Giacchino. No soundtrack album has been announced so far. Harry Gregson-Williams Scoring ‘Arthur Christmas’
Harry Gregson-Williams is currently scoring Aardman Animations’ and Sony Pictures Animation’s upcoming feature Arthur Christmas. He is taking over scoring duties from Michael Giacchino and Adam Cohen who were originally attached to score the movie. Gregson-Williams has previously co-scored Aardman’s first full length feature Chicken Run with John Powell and was the principal composer on the company’s 2006 film Flushed Away. Arthur Christmas directed by Barry Cook (Mulan) centers on Arthur, the son of Santa and his ultra-high-tech operation hidden beneath the North Pole. The movie’s voice talent includes James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie, Jim Broadbent, Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton and Ashley Jensen.
Michael Giacchino and Andrea Datzman to Score Fox’s ‘Alcatraz’
According to Music by Michael Giacchino, the composer has recently recorded music for the pilot of the new FOX drama Alcatraz. While Giacchino is scoring the pilot, Andrea Datzman will be writing the music for the rest of the season. Datzman previously co-scored last year’s J.J. Abrams-produced NBC drama Undercovers with Chris Tilton after Giacchino also scored the pilot. Alcatraz is created by Elizabeth Sarnoff (Lost, Deadwood) and stars Sarah Jones as a San Francisco detective involved in a grisly homicide case that takes her to America’s most infamous prison, where her prime suspect becomes an inmate who died more than 30 years before. Jorge Garcia (Lost), Sam Neill (Jurassic Park) and Robert Forster (Jackie Brown) are co-starring.
