John Powell and 5 Cat Studios have released a new album featuring nine suites from some of the composer’s score best known scores. Among the titles are How to Train Your Dragon (for which he received his first Academy Award nomination) and its first sequel, The Bourne Identity, Chicken Run, X-Men: The Last Stand, Two Weeks Notice, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Ice Age: The Meltdown and Endurance. The music was newly recorded with the Philharmonia Orchestra and The Philharmonia Voices and conducted by José Serebrier. ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Deluxe Edition Soundtrack Album Details
John Powell (How to Train Your Dragon, The Bourne Identity, Shrek, Happy Feet, Chicken Run, X-Men: The Last Stand) has announced the track list for the deluxe edition soundtrack album of Lucasfilm’s Solo: A Star Wars Story directed by Ron Howard and starring Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Donald Glover, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Thandie Newton and Paul Bettany. The album features the Academy Award-nominated composer’s expanded original score from the movie, including over 40 minutes of previously unreleased music. John Williams provided the Han Solo Theme. The soundtrack is set to be released next month by Walt Disney Records and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and other digital music services.
‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Deluxe Edition Soundtrack Announced
Varese Sarabande has announced the latest titles in its CD club series, including a deluxe edition soundtrack for DreamWorks Animation’s 2010 original How to Train Your Dragon movie directed by Chris Sanders & Dean DeBlois and starring Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Miller and Kristen Wiig. The album features the complete Academy Award-nominated original score from the film composed by John Powell (The Bourne Identity, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Happy Feet), including previously unreleased music, alternate versions and demos. Varese has previously released the original soundtrack album back in 2010.
‘Forces of Nature’ Score Album Announced
La-La Land Records has announced the world premiere official release of the original score from the 1999 romantic comedy Forces of Nature directed by Bronwen Hughes and starring Sandra Bullock, Ben Affleck, Maura Tierney, Steve Zahn and Blythe Danner. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee John Powell (How to Train Your Dragon, The Bourne Identity, Happy Feet, Star Wars: A Solo Story, United 93, Bolt). The CD, which is limited to 1,000 copies, will be available to order on the label’s official website starting at noon today.
Piano Solos from ‘How to Train Your Dragon: A Hidden World’ Released
5 Cat Studios has released a new album featuring piano solos from DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon: A Hidden World directed by Dean DeBlois and starring Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Cate Blanchett, Kit Harrington, Craig Ferguson and F. Murray Abraham. The album features nine tracks from John Powell‘s original score that were newly arranged and are performed by Batu Sener who provided additional music to the third installment in the How to Train Your Dragon series and collaborated with Powell on numerous other scores. The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on Apple Music/iTunes, where you can also check out audio samples. Back Lot Music has released the original soundtrack album for How to Train Your Dragon: A Hidden World last year.

The event is co-hosted with the Academy of Scoring Arts. John Powell is reteaming with director Chris Sanders (The Croods, Lilo & Stitch) on the upcoming adventure drama Call of the Wild. The film stars Harrison Ford, Dan Stevens, Karen Gillan, Bradley Whitford, Cara Gee and Omar Sy. The movie is based on Jack London’s 1903 novel and tells the story of a sled dog that tries to survive the Alaskan wilderness as well as a series of abusive owners. Michael Green (Logan, Blade Runner 2049) wrote the screenplay. Erwin Stoff (Edge of Tomorrow, Unbroken) is producing the project.
