According to Hans-Zimmer.com, Hans Zimmer has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming sci-fi thriller Chappie. The film is directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium) and stars Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel, Ninja and Yo-Landi Visser, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Sigourney Weaver, as well as Sharlto Copley as the voice of the title character. The movie follows a robot named Chappie who is kidnapped by two criminals and becomes the adopted son of a very strange and dysfunctional family. Blomkamp has co-writen the script with Terri Tatchell (District 9) and Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Elysium, Jumper) serves as a producer.

Weekly Film Music Roundup (November 7, 2014)
Two new movies are opening this weekend:
Already playing in select theaters since this past Wednesday and opening nationwide today is the sci-fi drama Interstellar directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Michael Caine. The film’s original music is composed by Hans Zimmer (Inception, The Dark Knight, The Lion King, Gladiator). WaterTower Music will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music in two different editions on November 18. Check out our previous news article for the full album details. Also opening wide is Walt Disney Animation Studios’ feature Big Hero 6 directed by Don Hall & Chris Williams and featuring the voices of Ryan Potter, Scott Adsit, T.J. Miller, Jaime Chung, Damon Wayans, Jr., Genesis Rodriguez, James Cromwell, Maya Rudolph Daniel Henney and Alan Tudyk. Henry Jackman (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Wreck-It-Ralph, X-Men: First Class) has composed the film’s original music. Hans Zimmer to Collaborate with Junkie XL on ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’
Hans Zimmer revealed in an interview with Comic Book Resource that he will be collaborating with Junkie XL on Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The composer mentioned that Junkie XL aka Tom Holkenborg will be providing music for the Batman character, while he will take care of Clark Kent/Superman. Zimmer previously scored Snyder’s Man of Steel. Junkie XL composed additional music for Man of Steel and also worked with Snyder on 300: Rise of an Empire. Zimmer had previously expressed hesitation to score another Batman movie when he was first asked about the project given his involvement with Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. Batman v Superman starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons and Holly Hunter is set to be released on March 25, 2016 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
‘Interstellar’ Soundtrack Details
WaterTower Music has announced the full details of the soundtrack album for Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi drama Interstellar. The album features the film’s original music composed by Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, Inception, Gladiator, The Lion King). The soundtrack will be released in two different versions on November 18, 2014: a Star Wheel Constellation Chart Digipak featuring 16 tracks from the score and a deluxe digital-only version featuring 22 tracks. A 28-track Illuminated Star Projection Edition with bonus content, including 30 minutes of music unavailable anywhere else will be coming out later this year (check back on this page for the full details). Interstellar starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Michael Caine will be released nationwide on November 7 by Paramount Pictures.

WaterTower Music will release the official soundtrack album for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. The album features the film’s original music composed by Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, The Lion King, The Thin Red Line, Man of Steel) who previously scored the director’s Inception and The Dark Knight trilogy. The soundtrack will be released on November 18, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The full details are expected to be revealed after the movie opens on November 7. Interstellar stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Michael Caine. The movie follows a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.
Hans Zimmer to Return for ‘Kung Fu Panda 3’
According to Hans-Zimmer.com, Hans Zimmer will return to score DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming sequel Kung Fu Panda 3. The film is directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson who previously helmed the second part in the series and features the voice talent of Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Bryan Cranston, Mads Mikkelsen and Rebel Wilson. The movie continues the journey of Po as he is mastering the art of Kung Fu and faces two threats: one supernatural and the other a little closer to home. Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger (Monsters vs. Aliens) who penned the previous two movies have written the screenplay. Melissa Cobb is producing the project and Guillermo del Toro serves as an as executive producer.
‘Hans Zimmer Revealed’ Concerts Announced
Details have been announced for the concert Hans Zimmer Revealed, which will take place on October 10 & 11, 2014 at the Eventim Hammersmith Apollo in London. The Academy Award-winning composer will be accompanied by a band of players mixing traditional orchestral instruments with rock and electronica, and will be joined by a few surprise special guests. The concert will be in two parts: the first featuring of Zimmer’s classic movie scores, such as The Lion King, Pirates of the Caribbean and Gladiator; and the second featuring re-imagined versions of such titles as Inception and The Dark Knight with special guests from the rock and pop world.
Hans Zimmer to Be Honored at Zurich Film Festival
Hans Zimmer will be honored with a a special Lifetime Award at the Zurich Film Festival. The Academy Award-winning composer will receive the award on October 1, 2014 during a public event at the Tonhalle Zurich. The event will also feature the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich performing the works of the Golden Eye for ‘Best International Film Music 2014’ finalists, as well as excerpts from some of Hans Zimmer’s most legendary scores, including those for The Lion King and Gladiator. Zimmer whose other scores include The Dark Knight, Inception, Driving Miss Daisy, The Last Samurai, Pirates of the Caribbean, and most recently, Man of Steel, Rush and 12 Years a Slave, has a personal connection to Switzerland, having attended private school there in his teens.
Hans Zimmer to Compose Title Theme for History’s ‘Sons of Liberty’
Hans Zimmer has been tapped to compose the title theme for History’s upcoming mini-series Sons of Liberty. The show is created by Stephen David (The Men Who Built America, The World Wars) & David C. White and stars Ben Barnes, Henry Thomas, Michael Raymond James, Rafe Spall, Ryan Eggold, Marton Csokas, Emily Berrington and Dean Norris. The series follows a defiant and radical group of young men – John Adams, Sam Adams, Paul Revere, John Hancock and Joseph Warren – as they band together in secrecy to change the course of history and make America a nation. Kari Skogland (Boardwalk Empire) is directing the six-parter and David is also executive producing the project with Matthew Gross (Across the Universe, Body of Proof), Russ McCarroll and Elaine Frontain Bryant.
Hans Zimmer, Pharell Williams & Woodkid to Compose Music for JR’s Next Film Project
French artist JR has announced on Instagram (via Complex) that Hans Zimmer, Pharrell Williams and Woodkid will be composing the music for his next film project. No details of the movie have been announced yet. Woodkid has previously collaborated with JR on the ballet Les bosquets. Zimmer and Williams have most recently worked together on the soundtrack for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, as well as Williams’ record G I R L. JR has previously the 2010 French documentary Women Are Heroes and was also the subject of last year’s doc Inside Out, which featured a score by composers including Antonio Pinto and premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.
