Lorne Balfe is scoring DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming feature Home. The movie is directed by Tim Johnson (Antz, Over the Hedge) and features the voices of Jim Parsons, Steve Martin, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez. The film is based on Adam Rex’s book The True Meaning of Smekday and centers on a friendly alien race that invades Earth and begins to efficiently reorganize the planet. Tom J. Astle & Matt Ember (Get Smart, Epic) have written the screenplay. Chris Jenkins (Surf’s Up) & Suzanne Buirgy (Kung Fu Panda 2) are producing the project.

Hans Zimmer to Return for ‘Kung Fu Panda 3’
According to Hans-Zimmer.com, Hans Zimmer will return to score DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming sequel Kung Fu Panda 3. The film is directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson who previously helmed the second part in the series and features the voice talent of Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Bryan Cranston, Mads Mikkelsen and Rebel Wilson. The movie continues the journey of Po as he is mastering the art of Kung Fu and faces two threats: one supernatural and the other a little closer to home. Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger (Monsters vs. Aliens) who penned the previous two movies have written the screenplay. Melissa Cobb is producing the project and Guillermo del Toro serves as an as executive producer.
DreamWorks Animation’s ‘Almost Home’ Features Music by Lorne Balfe
Lorne Balfe has composed the music for the new DreamWorks Animation short Almost Home. The 4-minute film introduces the characters of the studio’s upcoming feature Home directed by Tim Johnson (Over the Hedge) and featuring the voices of Steve Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Jim Parsons and Rihanna who is also writing songs for the film. Jeffrey Katzenberg announced today in a call to investors that Rihanna will be performing new original songs for DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming feature Home. She will also be creating a concept album based on the movie. The singer and actress also is also among the voice talent of the film directed by Tim Johnson (Antz, Over the Hedge). The animated feature’s voice cast also includes Steve Martin, Jennifer Lopez and Jim Parsons. Patrick Doyle to Score DreamWorks Animation’s ‘B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations’
Patrick Doyle has been tapped to score DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming feature B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations. The film is directed by Tony Leondis and features a voice cast including Seth Rogen, Melissa McCarthy, Bill Murray, Rashida Jones, Jennifer Coolidge, Octavia Spencer and Matt Bomer. The movie follows two bumbling apparitions who find themselves in an extraordinary after-life adventure when they join the Bureau of Otherworldly Operations (B.O.O.), the ghost world’s elite counter-haunting unit. Tom Wheeler (Puss in Boots, The Cape) has written the screenplay based on an idea by Leondis and Maryann Garger (Astro Boy, Flushed Away) is producing the movie.
Lorne Balfe to Score ‘The Penguins of Madagascar’
Lorne Balfe has signed on to score DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming animated feature The Penguins of Madagascar. The film is directed by Simon J. Smith (Bee Movie) and centers on the penguins from the studio’s Madagscar franchise. Tom McGrath, Chris Miller, John DiMaggio and Christopher Knights lend their voices to the title characters. The spin-off’s voice talent also includes Benedict Cumberbatch and John Malkovich. Michael Colton & John Aboud have written the screenplay and Lara Breay is producing the project. Balfe has previously co-scored Megamind for Breav and DreamWorks Animation with Hans Zimmer.
Danny Elfman Scoring ‘American Hustle’, ‘Mr. Peabody & Sherman’ and Tim Burton’s ‘Big Eyes’
Danny Elfman recently confirmed his involvement in three upcoming movies in a recent interview with Big Issue. The composer has recently finished his score for David O. Russell’s crime drama American Hustle. The film stars Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Jennifer Lawrence. The movie tells the the story of a brilliant con man who, along with his seductive British partner is forced to work for a wild FBI agent who pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers. Russell (The Fighter, Three Kings) has co-written the screenplay with Eric Warren Singer (The International). Megan Ellison (Zero Dark Thirty, The Master), Charles Roven (The Dark Knight trilogy, Twelve Monkeys) and Richard Suckle (The International) are producing the project.
Sigur Rós Frontman Jónsi to Collaborate with John Powell on ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’
During the DreamWorks Animation panel at Comic-Con in San Diego, it was announced that Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi will contribute three new compositions, including direct collaborations with composer John Powell, to the studio’s upcoming animated film sequel How to Train Your Dragon 2. It was also confirmed that Powell will return to compose the score following his Oscar-nominated work on the 2010 original film. The sequel is directed by Dean DeBlois (Lilo & Stitch) and features the voice talent of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, T.J. Miller, Kristen Wiig and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. They are joined by newcomers to the series, Cate Blanchett, Djimon Hounsou and Kit Harrington. The movie is set five years after the original film and follows Hiccup and Toothless as they discover a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider.
‘Turbo’ Score Album Announced
Relativity Music Group will release a score album for Dreamworks Animation’s feature Turbo. The album features the film’s original score composed by Henry Jackman (Wreck-It-Ralph, Puss in Boots). The soundtrack will be released digitally on July 23, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. As previously reported, the label will also release a regular edition soundtrack album featuring the film’s songs and selections of the score, as well as a deluxe edition including additional score tracks. Turbo is directed by David Soren and features the voices of Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena, Luis Guzmán, Bill Hader, Richard Jenkins, Ken Jeong, Michelle Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph, Ben Schwartz, Kurtwood Smith, Snoop Dogg and Samuel L. Jackson. The film will be released nationwide on July 19, 2013 by 20th Century Fox.
‘Turbo’ Deluxe Edition Soundtrack Announced
Relativity Music Group will release a deluxe edition of the soundtrack album for Dreamworks Animation’s Turbo. The album features eleven additional tracks from the film’s original score composed by Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class, Wreck-It-Ralph) in addition to the content of the regular edition that was announced last week. The soundtrack will be released digitally on July 16, 2013. Turbo is directed by David Soren and features a voice cast including Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena, Richard Jenkins, Bill Hader Luis Guzmán, Ken Jeong, Michelle Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph, Ben Schwartz, Kurtwood Smith, Snoop Dogg and Samuel L. Jackson. The animated feature is set to be released on July 19, 2013.
