Brian Reitzell has signed on to compose the music for the upcoming Starz original series American Gods. The show is created by Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies) & Michael Green (Green Lantern) based on Neil Gaiman’s fantasy novel and stars Rickey Whittle, Ian McShane, Emily Browning, Jonathan Tucker, Crispin Glover, Cloris Leachman, Pablo Schreiber, Peter Stormare, Yetide Badaki, Bruce Langley, Chris Obi and Mousa Kraish. The drama follows a recently released ex-convict named Shadow who meets a mysterious man who calls himself “Wednesday” and who knows more than he first seems to about Shadow’s life and past.

Brian Reitzell Scoring ‘Kicks’
Brian Reitzell is composing the music for the upcoming indie drama Kicks. The film is directed by Justin Tipping and stars Jahking Guillory, Mahershala Ali, Kofi Siriboe, Christopher Jordan Wallace and Christopher Meyer. The movie follows a fifteen-year old boy and his two best friends who go on an ill-advised mission across the Bay Area to retrieve the a pair of sneakers that were stolen by a local hood. Tipping has also written the screenplay with Josh Beirne-Golden. David Kaplan (It Follows), Joshua Astrachan (Short Term 12, A Prairie Home Companion) and Adele Romanski (The Myth of the American Sleepover, Black Rock) are producing the project.
‘Hannibal’ Season 3 Soundtracks Announced
Lakeshore Records will release two soundtrack albums for the NBC and Gaumont Television series Hannibal. The albums feature selections of the original music from the show’s third and final season composed by Brian Reitzell (Lost in Translation, Friday Night Lights, Boss, Stranger Than Fiction). Also included are the original songs Love Crime from the Wrath of the Lamb feat. Siouxsie Sioux and Snake Charmer feat. Marc Almond. The soundtracks will be released digitally on December 11, 2015 and physically in early 2016. ‘Scoring for Crime, Death and Resurrection’ Composer Panel at Comic-Con Announced
The line-up of the composer panel Behind the Music with CW3PR: Crime, Death and Resurrection at Comic-Con has been announced. The sixth edition of the event will feature a number of film and television composers discussing their work and will also feature surprise sneak peeks from upcoming projects, followed by a fan-led Q&A with exclusive giveaways. Panelists at this year’s panelists include two recent first-time Emmy nominees: Jeff Russo (Hostages) who was nominated for his music for FX’s Fargo and James Levine (Glee, Major Crimes, Nip/Tuck) who received the honor for his music on FX’s American Horror Story. Other participants include Golden Globe nominee Christopher Young (Spider-Man 3, Deliver Us from Evil), Steve Jablonsky (Transformers series, Ender’s Game), Daniel Licht (Dexter, The Red Road) and Brian Reitzell (Hannibal, 30 Days of Night).
‘The Character of Music’ Panel at Comic-Con Announced
The line-up for this year’s The Character of Music panel at Comic-Con in San Diego has been announced. A number of composer and executive producer teams will discuss the dynamics of music in film and television. Panelists include Bear McCreary and Jonathan Steinberg (Black Sails), Brian Reitzell and Bryan Fuller (Hannibal), and Dino Meneghin and Jeff Davis (Teen Wolf). The participants will discuss their working relationship, how music plays a character in their stories and the intense process of scoring their projects. The panel will be moderated by BMI’s director of film and TV relations Anne Cecere and Chandler Poling of White Bear PR. The event will take place on Friday, July 19 at 3:00pm in Room 32AB. Two new movies are opening wide this week:
Opening in most theaters is the Superman reboot Man of Steel directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni and Russell Crowe. The film’s music is composed by Hans Zimmer. WaterTower Music has released two different soundtrack albums featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. RCA Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film, including the original track Take Yo Panties Off by Snoop Dogg & Craig Robinson, as well as tracks by Cypress Hill, Whitney Houston, Funkadelic, Backstreet Boys, Norman Greenbaum, J-Kwon, K.Flay and a track from James Franco’s band Daddy. ‘The Bling Ring’ Soundtrack Details
Def Jam Recordings will release the official soundtrack album for the indie drama The Bling Ring. The album features the songs from the film by artists including Sleigh Bells, M.I.A., 2 Chainz, Kanye West, deadmau5, Phoenix, Frank Ocean, Rick Ross (feat. Lil Wayne) and Azealia Banks. Also included is a suite from the movie’s score composed by Brian Reitzell (Friday Night Lights) and Daniel Lopatin. The soundtrack will be released on June 11, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Bling Ring is written and directed by Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation) and stars Emma Watson, Leslie Mann, Taissa Farmiga, Claire Julien, Israel Broussard, Katie Chang, Georgia Rock and Gavin Rossdale. The movie is based on a true story and follows a group of teenagers obsessed with fashion and celebrity that burglarize celebrities’ homes in Los Angeles.
