Last night, Antonio Sanchez performed his original score for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s comedy drama Birdman live to picture at ACE Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. The jazz drummer who made his film scoring debut on the project was presented to the stage by actor Michael Keaton, who is up for an Oscar for his lead performance in the film. Sanchez’s score is available on Milan Records and the movie, which is nominated for 9 Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor/Actress, Best Cinematography and Best Original Screenplay, is now playing in theaters.

Antonio Sanchez Wins Critics’ Choice Movie Award for ‘Birdman’
Antonio Sanchez was honored with the Critics’ Choice Movie Award in the Best Score category for his music for Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s Birdman at tonight’s 19th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. The other composers nominated in the Best Score category were Alexandre Desplat for The Imitation Game, Johann Johannsson for The Theory of Everything, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross for Gone Girl and Hans Zimmer for Interstellar.
Gregg Alexander & Antonio Sanchez to Perform at Hollywood Music in Media Awards
The Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMAs) announced the performers today for the 5th Annual HMMAs. Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter/producer Gregg Alexander will perform the original song Lost Stars from this year’s comedy drama Begin Again, which is performed in the film by Adam Levine and Keira Knightley. It will mark the former New Radicals frontman’s first live performance in 15 years. In addition, Antonio Sanchez will open the awards show with a special drum performance from Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s Birdman live to a scene from the film. Finally, Gwendolyn Sadford, Brandon Jay and Scott Doherty will perform their original music from Jenji Kohan’s Netflix original series Orange Is the New Black.

Three new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the action war drama Fury written and directed by David Ayer and starring Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Peña, Jon Bernthal, Jason Isaacs and Scott Eastwood. The film’s original music is composed by Steven Price (Gravity, Attack the Block, The World’s End). Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Also opening wide is the animated feature The Book of Life directed by Jorge Gutierrez, produced by Guillermo del Toro and featuring the voices of Channing Tatum, Zoë Saldana, Diego Luna, Ice Cube, Ron Perlman, Christina Applegate, Danny Trejo and Cheech Martin. Gustavo Santaolalla (Brokeback Mountain, Babel, August: Osage County) has composed the film’s original score. Sony Masterworks has released a soundtrack album featuring selections from the composer’s music, as well as the songs from the film, including original tracks by performed by Jesse & Joy and La Santa Cecilia. ‘Birdman’ Soundtrack Details
The details of the soundtrack album for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s comedy drama Birdman have been revealed. The album features the film’s original drum music written by Antonio Sanchez. Also included are the classical pieces featured in the movie by Gustav Mahler, Maurice Ravel, Sergei Rachmaninov and John Adams. The soundtrack will be released on October 14, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out two tracks after the jump. Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s ‘Birdman’ to Feature Music by Antonio Sanchez
Antonio Sanchez has composed the score for the upcoming comedy Birdman. The film is directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and stars Michael Keaton, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough and Amy Ryan. The movie follows a former actor, who once played an iconic superhero, as he mounts a Broadway play based on a Raymond Carver short story in a bid to reclaim past glory. Inarritu also co-wrote the screenplay with Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolas Giacobone & Armando Bo (Biutiful) and is also producing the Worldview Entertainment and New Regency production with John Lesher (End of Watch, Blood Ties). Sanchez is best known as a jazz drummer who has performed with such acts as the Pat Metheny Group and has also released three solo albums over the past six years.
