Michael Andrews will compose the score for the upcoming comedy Bridesmaids. The movie is centered around two women battling to plan their friend’s wedding party. The comedy directed by Paul Feig (Unaccompanied Minors) stars Kristen Wiig, Jon Hamm and Rose Byrne. Bridesmaids is produced by Judd Apatow, who worked with Andrews on his last directorial effort Funny People. Universal Pictures is planning to release the movie on May 13, 2011. Harry Gregson-Williams to score ‘Cowboys & Aliens’

According to the film’s new trailer, Harry Gregson-Williams has been hired to score the upcoming sci-fi action movie Cowboys & Aliens. The Dreamworks movie is directed by Jon Favreau, who worked with composer John Debney on most of his movies including Elf, Zathura and Iron Man 2. Cowboys & Aliens stars Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde, Harrison Ford, Paul Dano and Sam Rockwell.The movie is set in Silver City, Arizona, where Apache Indians and Western settlers must lay their differences aside when an alien spaceship crash lands in their city. The movie is produced by Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and co-writers Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. The movie is scheduled for a July 29, 2011 release date. Lorne Balfe to join Hans Zimmer on ‘The Dilemma’

Film Music Reporter has learned that Lorne Balfe will be the co-composer of Ron Howard’s upcoming comedy The Dilemma alongside Hans Zimmer, who previously has been announced as the film’s composer. In the movie, a man discovers that his best friend’s wife is having an affair. The Dilemma stars Vince Vaughn, Kevin James, Winona Ryder, Channing Tatum, Jennifer Connelly and Queen Latifah. Ron Howard and Zimmer have worked together several times before, including Backdraft, The DaVinci Code, Angels and Demons and Frost/Nixon. Balfe and Zimmer recently co-composed the score for Megamind, which is the current #1 movie in the US. Universal Pictures has scheduled a January 14, 2011 release date for the movie. Tron: Legacy Soundtrack details

Walt Disney Records will release soundtrack album for the upcoming sci-fi movie Tron: Legacy. The soundtrack set for a December 7 release will include the score for the movie by Daft Punk. The electronic duo assembled a symphony of eighty-five world-class musicians in London and recorded the orchestra at AIR Lyndhurst Studios. The movie about a virtual-world worker who looks to take down the Master Control Program stars Olivia Wilde, Garrett Hedlund, Jeff Bridges and Michael Sheen is coming out on December 17. Heitor Pereira recently recorded the score for the upcoming romantic comedy A Little Bit of Heaven. The movie centers around a guarded woman who finds out she’s dying of cancer, but when she meets her match, the threat of falling in love is scarier than death. The comedy is directed by Nicole Kassell who previously directed the 2004 indie drama The Woodsman starring Kevin Bacon. A Little Bit of Heaven stars Kate Hudson, Whoopi Goldberg, Gael Garcia Bernal and Kathy Bates. Black Swan soundtrack album coming

Sony Masterworks will release the soundtrack album for Darren Aronofsky’s thriller Black Swan starring Natalie Portman, Vincent Kassel, Mila Kunis and Winona Ryder. The album will include Clint Mansell’s original score from the movie using elements Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. Three new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Tony Scott’s new thriller Unstoppable starring Denzel Washington, Chris Pine and Rosario Dawson features a score by Harry Gregson-Williams. The movie has received the best reviews for any movie by the director in over a decade. The score has been described as a hybrid electronic/orchestral score in the vein of Gregson-Williams’ other scores for the director (Man on Fire, The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3). Film Music Reporter has learned that Trevor Rabin has been hired to score the upcoming sci-fi action movie I Am Number Four. The movie is directed by D.J. Caruso, who previously worked with such composers as Thomas Newman (The Salton Sea), Philip Glass (Taking Lives), Christophe Beck (Two for the Money), Geoff Zanelli (Disturbia) and Brian Tyler (Eagle Eye). The movie stars Timothy Olyphant, Kevin Durand and Teresa Palmer and centers around the character of John, an extraordinary teen, masking his true identity and passing as a typical high school student to elude a deadly enemy seeking to destroy him. The movie is produced by Michael Bay, who previously worked with Trevor Rabin on such movies as Armageddon and Bad Boys 2. ‘Faster’ soundtrack album announced

Lakeshore Records has announced a digital release of the upcoming soundtrack to the action thriller Faster starring Dwayne Johnson and Billy Bob Thornton. The album will be released on November 23 and features the score by composer Clint Mansell, as well as songs by Iggy Pop, The Heavy among others.

Desplat talking about Harry Potter score

A number of interviews with composer Alexandre Desplat on his score for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 have been published over the last couple of days. AinItCoolNews conducted an interview with the composer talking in detail on how he got involved in the project and his approach to the movie’s score. Daniel Schweiger from Film Music Magazine also did an interview with Desplat talking about working on Harry Potter and also confirming his involvement in involvement in the last part of the series. Finally, the British radio station Classic FM uploaded a short audio interview with the composer where he talks about following the footsteps of John Williams, Patrick Doyle and Nicholas Hooper and working with the LSO, which recorded his soundtrack for the movie.
