La-La Land Records has announced two new limited editon soundtrack albums. First up is an expanded release of the original score from Tim Burton’s 2001 version of Planet of the Apes composed by Danny Elfman. The 3-disc set includes the film version of the score, including source cues and alternates, on two discs, as well as the original 2001 soundtrack album, which includes the Rule the Planet remix by Paul Oakenfold. Dory Previn Dead at 86

Lyricist Dory Previn has passed away today at age 86 at her home in Southfield, Mass. Previn has been nominated for three Academy Awards for her songs Faraway Part of Town from the 1960 musical Pepe and Second Chance from the 1962 drama Two For The Seesaw, both co-written by her then husband Andre Previn, as well as Come Saturday Morning from the 1969 film The Sterile Cuckoo co-written by Fred Karlin. Probably her best known collaboration with Andre Previn was the theme song for 1967’s Valley Of The Dolls, which became a massive hit for Dionne Warwick. She also received two shared Emmy nominations for the songs We’ll Win This World from 1982’s Two from a Kind with James Di Pasquale and Home Here from the TV show Two Marriages with Bruce Broughton. Dory Previn is survived by her husband, Joby Baker.
Marc Shaiman to Score ‘Parental Guidance’

Marc Shaiman has signed on to score the upcoming family comedy Parental Guidance. The movie is directed by Andy Fickman (The Game Plan, Race to Witch Mountain) and stars Billy Crystal and Bette Middler as two grandparents who struggle with their grandkids’ modern ways and soon resort to an old-school style of parenting. Marisa Tomei, Bailey Madison and Tom Everett Scott are co-starring. ‘Once Upon a Time’ Score EP Released

ABC Studios has released a score album for the ABC hit show Once Upon a Time. Once Upon a Time: Extended Play includes four themes from the show written by Academy Award-nominated composer Mark Isham. The four-track EP is available to download on iTunes. A full score album will be coming out this spring. Once Upon a Time created by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz (Lost) stars Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin, Robert Carlyle, Lana Parrilla, Josh Dallas, Jamie Dornan and Jared Gilmore. The full track list of the soundtrack album for the movie adaptation of The Hunger Games has been revealed. The album includes 16 songs from the movie by artists including Taylor Swift, Arcade Fire, Kid Cudi, Miranda Lambert, The Civil Wars, Glen Hasard, The Low Anthem, Punch Brothers and Birdy. ‘Last Night’ Soundtrack Details

Milan Records has revealed the details of the soundtrack release for the drama Last Night. The album includes the original score by Grammy- and Golden Globe-nominated composer Clint Mansell. Also included is the song Not At Home by Mansell and Peter Broderick. The soundtrack will be released on March 27, 2012 digitally, on digipak CD and limited 180g vinyl. Christophe Beck to Score ‘Neighborhood Watch’

Christophe Beck has been tapped to score the sci-fi comedy Neighborhood Watch. The film directed by Akiva Schaffer (Hot Rod) revolves around a group of suburban dads who form a Neighborhood Watch to get away from their families, only to discover a bigger conspiracy. The movie stars Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, Rosemarie Dewitt, Richard Ayoade and Nicholas Braun. Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg (Superbad, The Green Hornet) have written the screenplay. Ludovic Bource Wins BAFTA for ‘The Artist’

Ludovic Bource has won the Orange British Academy Film Award (BAFTA) in the Original Music category for his score for The Artist. Bource accepted his award in person at the awards ceremony at the Royal Opera House in London. The composer’s competitors in the category were Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Howard Shore (Hugo), Alberto Iglesias (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy) and John Williams (War Horse). The award marks Bource’s first BAFTA win. The composer has previously received the Golden Globe for his work on the black-and-white silent film and is considered to be the frontrunner to win the Academy Award on February 26. ‘Act of Valor’ Score Album Details

Relativity Music Group will be releasing a score album for the war movie Act of Valor. The soundtrack includes the original score from the film by composer Nathan Furst (Dust to Glory). The album will be released digitally on February 21, 2012 and will be available to download on Amazon. Alexandre Desplat has been hired to score the upcoming Dreamworks Animation feature Rise of the Guardians. The movie is based on the book series The Guardians of Childhood by William Joyce (Meet the Robinsons) who is also co-directing the film with Peter Ramsey. The movie follows a group of heroic childhood legends, including Santa Claus (voiced by Alec Baldwin), the Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman), the Tooth Fairy (Isla Fisher) and Jack Frost (Chris Pine) who teaming up to stop Pitch the Boogeyman (Jude Law) from sending the world into eternal darkness. Joyce has also co-written the film’s script with David Lindsay-Abaire (Robots, Rabbit Hole). Christina Steinberg (Bee Movie) and Nancy Bernstein are producing the project and Guillermo del Toro and Michael Siegel (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) serve as executive producers.
