Max Richter is scoring the upcoming indie ensemble drama Disconnect. The film stars Jason Bateman, Andrea Riseborough, Alexander Skarsgard, Paula Patton, Max Thieriot, Colin Ford, Michael Nyqvist, Hope Davis, Frank Grillo, Jonah Bobo and Haley Ramm. The movie marks the narrative feature directing debut of Henry-Alex Rubin who previously helmed the Academy Award-nominated documentary Murderball. Disconnect interweaves three potboiler storylines about people searching for human connection in today’s wired world of the internet. The drama is written by Andrew Stern (Return to Me) and produced by Mickey Liddell & Jennifer Hilton (The Grey, The Collector) for Liddell Entertainment and William Horberg (Milk, The Talented Mr. Ripley) for Wonderful Films. Quartet Records has released a compilation album comprising all the three films scored by Academy Award-nominated composer Bruno Coulais for film director Benoît Jacquot. The album includes the original score for the period drama Farewell, My Queen (Les adieux à la reine), which was recorded with a full symphony orchestra at Air Studios in London. Also featured on the release are selections of Coulais’ music for the 2009 film Villa Amalia starring Isabelle Huppert and the 2010 period drama Au fond des bois. ‘Magic City’ Soundtrack Details

Silva Screen Records will be releasing a soundtrack album for the Starz series Magic City. The album features eleven songs from the show by artists including Bo Diddley, Patti Austin, Frankie Avalon, The Diamonds, Tito Puente, Albert King, Johnny Otis, Julie London, Beny More, Lee Morgan ans Ray Charles. The soundtrack will be released digitally on April 17, 2012 and will be available to download on Amazon. Audio clips from all tracks on the album can be checked out after the jump. A seperate soundtrack album featuring the show’s original score by Daniele Luppi will be released later this year. Details are expected to be announced soon. A soundtrack album has been released for the indie drama Detachment. The album includes the original score from the film written by The Newton Brothers. The soundtrack is now available to download on iTunes, where you can also listen to audio clips. Detachment is directed by Tony Kaye (American History X) and stars Adrien Brody, Christina Hendricks, James Caan, Lucy Lio, Bryan Cranston, Blythe Danner, Marcia Gay Harden and Tim Blake Nelson. The movie depicting three weeks in the lives of high school teachers, administrators and students through the eyes of substitute teacher premiered at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival and is now playing in limited release. Tree Adams has signed on to score the ABC drama pilot Nashville. The show stars Connie Briton as the 40-year-old Nashville fading superstar Rayna James whose label requires her to team up with a teen sensation, played by Hayden Panettiere, or else face the loss of her own tour and the label’s promotion of her latest record, whose sales have been underwhelming. Powers Boothe, Eric Close, Jonathan Jackson and Charles Esten are co-starring. The drama is created by Academy Award winner Callie Khouri (Thelma & Louise) who is also producing the project with R.J. Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the comedy The Three Stooges directed by Bobby and Peter Farrelly and starring Chris Diamantopolous, Sean Hayes and Will Sasso in the title roles, alongside Sofia Vergara, Jane Lynch, Larry David, Jennifer Hudson, Craig Bierko and Carly Craig. John Debney has composed the film’s original score. No soundtrack album has been announced yet, but check out our previous news article for a video from the orchestral recording sessions of the score. Also opening wide is the horror thriller The Cabin in the Woods written by Joss Whedon, directed by Drew Goddard and starring Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchison, Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford. The film’s music is written by  David Julyan (Memento, The Prestige). Back Lot Music has released a five-track soundtrack EP for the upcoming comedy The Five-Year Engagement. The EP features one track from the film’s original score composed by Michael Andrews (Bridesmaids, Donnie Darko), as well as the songs Cucurrucucu Paloma performed by actor Chris Pratt, Crazy Love by Audra Mae, Into the Mystic by The Swell Season and When That Evening Sun Goes Down by Brett Dennen. Stephen Trask has been hired to score the upcoming biopic Lovelace. The movie starring Amanda Seyfried as adult film star Linda Lovelace is told through the production of Deep Throat, her abusive relationship with Chuck Traynor and eventual spearheading of the feminist anti-pornography movement. Peter Sarsgaard, Hank Azaria, Wes Bentley, Adam Brody, Bobby Cannavale, James Franco, Chris Noth, Robert Patrick, Eric Roberts, Chloë Sevigny, Sharon Stone and Juno Temple are co-starring in the film directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman. Sony Masterworks will be releasing the official soundtrack albums for two of the major summer films by 20th Century Fox. First up is the soundtrack for Ridley Scott’s sci-fi horror thriller Prometheus. The album features the original music from the film by Marc Streitenfeld (American Gangster, Robin Hood). More details are expected to be announced within the next couple of weeks. The soundtrack is scheduled for a release on June 5, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Prometheus stars Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Ben Foster and will be released on June 8. Read the rest of this entry »

New CNN Interview with James Horner

CNN has published a new video interview with composer James Horner about his music for James Camerson’s Titanic. The video feature includes footage from the 1997 scoring sessions for the bestselling soundtrack.
