Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:

warm-bodiesExpected to top the weekend box office is the zombie romance Warm Bodies directed by Jonathan Levine and starring Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, Rob Corddry, Dave Franco, Analeigh Tipton and John Malkovich. The film’s music is composed by Marco Beltrami (Scream, 3:10 to Yuma) and Buck Sanders (The Hurt LockerMax Payne). Despite featuring a significant amount of original score, as well as numerous songs, no soundtrack album has been announced at this point. bullet-to-the-headAlso opening wide is the action thriller Bullet to the Head directed by Walter Hill and starring Sylvester Stallone, Sung Kang, Jason Momoa, Sarah Shahi and Christian Slater. Steve Mazzaro has composed the film’s original score and Hans Zimmer has produced the music. A soundtrack album featuring Mazzaro’s score has been released earlier digitally this week and will be coming out on February 19 on CD by Varese Sarabande. chris-hajianChris Hajian has been hired to score the upcoming thriller Runner, Runner. The film is directed by Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer) and stars Ben Affleck, Justin Timberlake, Gemma Arterton, Anthony Mackie, Oliver Cooper, Michael Esper and Ben Schwartz. The movie follows a young man cheated out of his tuition money playing online poker who flies to Costa Rica in the hope of reclaiming his losses from the site’s billionaire owner and ends up becoming the corrupt CEO’s right-hand man. Brian Koppelman & David Levien (Rounders, Runaway Jury) are producing New Regency Pictures production with Leonardo DiCaprio & Jennifer Davisson Killoran (The Ides of March, Orphan) for Appian Way and Michael Shamberg & Stacey Sher (Django Unchained, Contagion) for Double Feature Films. identity-thiefThe details of the soundtrack album for the crime comedy Identity Thief have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by Christopher Lennertz (Revolution, Think Like a Man). Also included is a cover of James Brown’s The Payback performed by Amanda Brown and a song by Ty Taylor. The soundtrack will be released digitally on February 5, 2013 by Back Lot Music. Musicians playing on the score include Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney, Earth, Wind and Fire keyboardist and music director Myron McKinley and Beastie Boys keyboardist Money Mark. Identity Thief marks Lennertz’ second collaboration with director Seth Gordon following 2011’s Horrible Bosses. sundanceBMI has published several videos from last week’s film composer/director roundtable Music & Film: The Creative Process at the Sundance Film Festival. Participants include composer Terence Blanchard, composer Mark Isham and director George Tillman, Jr. whose drama The Inevitable Defeat Of Mister And Pete premiered at the festival, composer Ludwig Goransson and writer/director Ryan Cogler whose feature Fruitvale received the top Sundance honor and was picked up for distribution by The Weinstein Company, composer Rob Simonsen and director James Ponsoldt whose coming of age drama The Spectacular Now was acquired by A24 for a theatrical release (Simonsen also scored the comedy The Way, Way Back, which was picked up by Fox Searchlight as the biggest sale at the festival), composer Abel Korzeniowski and director Randy Moore who worked together on the controversial Disney theme park-set Escape from Tomorrow, composer Dustin O’Halloran who scored the indie drama Breathe In, his second project for Drake Doremus following Like Crazy and composer Craig Wedren and director Jill Solloway who collaborated on the comedy Afternoon Delight. betty_and_corettaGolden Globe-nominated composer Terence Blanchard has composed the score for the new Lifetime original movie Betty and Coretta. The film directed by Yves Simoneau (Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee) tells the dual stories of Coretta Scott King and Dr. Betty Shabazz as they carry on as single mothers following the assassinations of their husbands, Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. Angela Bassett plays Coretta King, while Mary J. Blige portays Betty Shabazz. Ruby Dee,Malik Yoba, Lindsay Owne Pierre, Gloria Reuben, Cherise Booth and Shinelle Azoroh are co-starring. Shem Bitterman & Ron Hutchinson (The Josephine Baker Story) have written the script and Blige is executive producing the project with Larry Sanitsky, Jaja Johnson and Polly Anthony. escape_from_tomorrowA soundtrack for the black-and-white horror fantasy movie Escape from Tomorrow has been released this week. The album features the film’s original score composed and conducted by Abel Korzeniowski (A Single Man, W.E.). The composer recorded his music at the Eastwood Scoring Stage at Warner Bros. Studios. The soundtrack is now available digitally on Amazon. Audio clips are available after the jump. Escape from Tomorrow is written and directed by Randy Moore and stars Roy Abramsohn, Elena Schuber, Katelynn Rodriguez, Annet Mahendru, Danielle Safady and Alison Lees-Taylor. The film follows a family man on the last day of a Disney World vacation with his wife and two children who begins to be haunted by disturbing imagery. The film based on the classic novel by Orson Scott Card is adapted for the screen and directed by Gavin Hood (X-Men: Wolverine, Tsotsi). The movie stars Asa Butterfield as Andrew “Ender” Wiggin, a genius strategist recruited by the government to help destroy an insect-like alien race. Harrison Ford, Abigail Breslin, Hailee Steinfeld, Ben Kingsley, Viola Davis, Aramis Knight, Moises Arias, Jimmy “Jax” Pinchak, Suraj Partha, Conor Carroll and Khylin Rhambo are co-starring. first-loveLa-La Land Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for the 1977 romance First Love directed by Joan Darling and starring William Katt, Susan Dey and John Heard. The album features the film’s original score written by Academy Award-winning composer John Barry (Goldfinger, Dances With Wolves). Only a small portion of the score was used in the final version of the Paramount Pictures production. muhammadalisgreatestfightGeorge Fenton is scoring the upcoming HBO original movie Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight. The film is directed by Stephen Frears and stars Christopher Plummer, Frank Langella, Benjamin Walker, Danny Glover, Barry Levinson, Pablo Schreiber, Ed Begley Jr., Bob Balaban and Kathleen Chalfant. The movie chronicles Ali’s battle with the Supreme Court over his Muslim beliefs as a conscientious objector during the Vietnam War. Instead of casting an actor to play the boxing legend, the film will utilize actual footage of Ali. The screenplay is written by Shawn Slovo (Captain Corelli’s Mandolin) and Frank Doelger (Game of Thrones), Tracey Scoffield (Dirty Pretty Things) and Jonathan Cameron are executive producing the HBO Films production. charles-swanNight Fever Music will release the official soundtrack album for Roman Coppola’s indie comedy A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III. The album features the original score from the film composed by Liam Hayes, who has made music under the name Plush since the early 90’s. Also included is a track performed by Jason Schwartzman and a cover of the Brazilian classic Aguas De Marco written by Antonio Carlos Jobim sung by the film’s lead actors Katheryn Winnick & Charlie Sheen.
