cultPremiering on Tuesday, February 19 is the new CW drama Cult created by Rockne S. O’Bannon (Farscape, V) and starring Matt Davis, Jessica Lucas, Alona Tal and Robert Knepper. The series follows a journalist blogger and a production assistant, who investigate a series of mysterious disappearances that are linked to a popular television series. O’Bannon is executive producing the show with Josh Schwartz (The O.C.), Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl) and Len Goldstein (Hart of Dixie). The drama’s original score is composed by Tim Jones who has previously scored the Schwartz-produced show Chuck, as well as the second season of Human Target. girl-risingRachel Portman and Lorne Balfe have composed the score for the documentary Girl Rising. The film is directed by Richard Robbins who previously helmed the Academy Award-nominated doc Operation Homecoming: Writing the Wartime Experience. The movie tells the stories of several girls from around the globe who fought for their chance to go to school in spite of extreme poverty and natural disasters and features voice performances by Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Kerry Washington, Cate Blanchett, Selena Gomez, Salma Hayek, Alicia Keys, Chloe Moretz, Liam Neeson, Priyanka Chopra and Freida Pinto. The project marks the first documentary acquired by CNN Films and is executive produced by Tom Yellin and Holly Gordon of the Documentary Group and Paul G. cinemaaudiosocietyThe team behind the sound mixing of Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables has won the award for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing for 2012 Motion Pictures – Live Action at tonight’s 49th annual Cinema Audio Society Awards ceremony at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. Scoring mixer Jonathan Allen, along with production mixer Simon Hayes, re-recording mixers Andy Nelson & Mark Paterson, ADR mixer Robert Edwards and foley mixer Pete Smith have received the award for the movie musical starring Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe and Amanda Seyfried. The other contenders in the category were Lincoln (including scoring mixer Shawn Murphy) and Skyfall (including scoring mixer Simon Rhodes), The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (including scoring mixer Peter Cobbin) and Zero Dark Thirty (including scoring mixer Sam Okell). Arturo Sandoval Scoring ‘Middleton’

middletonArturo Sandoval is scoring the upcoming indie romantic comedy Middleton. The marks the feature directorial debut of Adam Rodgers and stars Vera Farmiga, Andy Garcia, Taissa Farmiga, Spencer Lofranco, Peter Riegert and Tom Skerritt. The movie centers on a once-in-a-lifetime relationship that develops between two strangers over the course of a single day. Rodgers has co-written the screenplay with Glenn German who is also producing the project with Garcia and Sig Libowitz. Sandoval who is best known as a jazz trumpeter has previously scored a number of films, most notably the 2000 TV biopic For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story, in which Andy Garcia portrayed Sandoval and for which the composer received an Emmy Award. He has collaborated as a performer with film composers including Hans Zimmer (Rango) and James Newton Howard (Big Trouble).  Middleton is expected to be released later this year by Anchor Bay Films. Four new movies are opening nationwide this holiday weekend:

a-good-day-to-die-hardExpected to top the weekend box office is the action thriller sequel A Good Day to Die Hard directed by John Moore and starring Bruce Willis and Jai Courtney. The film’s music is composed by Marco Beltrami (3:10 to Yuma, Scream) who previously scored the last film in the series, Live Free or Die Hard. safe-havenAlso opening wide is the romantic drama/thriller Safe Haven directed by Lasse Hallstrom and starring Josh Duhamel, Julianne Hough, David Lyons, Cobie Smulders and Noah Lomax. The film’s original score is composed by Deborah Lurie who previously worked with Hallstrom on the Nicholas Sparks adaptation Dear John and An Unfinished Life. feltenstein-nauAndrew Feltenstein and John Nau have recently completed their score for the upcoming comedic thriller Better Living Through Chemistry. The film is directed by Geoff Moore and David Posamentier and stars Sam Rockwell as a small-town pharmacist stuck in a loveless marriage starts an affair with a trophy wife, played by Olivia Wilde, who takes him on a joyride involving sex, drugs and possibly murder. Michelle Monaghan, Ray Liotta and Jane Fonda are co-starring. Joe Neurauter & Felipe Marino (The Wackness, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane) are producing the project for Occupant Films. ‘The Last Stand’ Soundtrack Released

the-last-standLionsgate Records has released a soundtrack album for Kim Jee-Woon’s action thriller The Last Stand. The album features the film’s original score composed by Mowg who previously collaborated with the director on 2010’s I Saw the Devil. The soundtrack is now available to download on iTunes, where you can also listen to audio clips. The Last Stand starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Forest Whitaker, Johnny Knoxville, Luis Guzman, Rodrigo Santoro, Zach Gilford, Jaimie Alexander, Genesis Rodriguez and Peter Stormare follows a sheriff of a quiet US border town who is preparing to make a last stand to intercept a notorious drug baron from crossing the border. body-of-proofTrevor Morris has taken over scoring duties on the ABC drama Body of Proof. The composer is scoring the third season of the show starring Dana Delaney as neurosurgeon-turned-Medical-Examiner Dr. Megan Hunt who is on a quest to find justice for the dead and prevent harm to the living. Daniel Licht (Dexter) has scored the previous two seasons. Body of Proof co-stars Jeri Ryan, Mark Valley, Geoffrey Arend, Windell D. Middlebrooks, Elyes Gabel and Mary Mouser. Creator Christopher Murphey (writer of The Karate Kid remake) is executive producing the series with Matthew Gross (Across the Universe) and Evan Katz. Laurent Eyquem to Score ‘Tokarev’

laurent-eyquemLaurent Eyquem has been tapped to score the upcoming action thriller Tokarev. The film will be directed by Spanish filmmaker Paco Cabezas and is set to star Nicolas Cage as a reformed criminal searching for his daughter who has been kidnapped by the Russian mob. Sean Keller and Jim Agnew (Giallo) have written the screenplay and Richard Rionda Del Castro (Casino Jack, The Son of No One) will produce for Hannibal Classics in association with North by Northwest Entertainment. Cage, Keller and Agnew are also executive producing the project with Patricia Eberle, Richard Salvatore, Mike Nilon, Hayley Magouirk, Cam Cannon, David Milner and Martin Barab. bibleMercer Street Records will release the official soundtrack album for the History Channel’s mini-series The Bible. The album features the series’ original score composed by Hans Zimmer & Lorne Balfe and featuring vocals by Lisa Gerrard. The soundtrack will be released on March 5, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips from the score below. The Bible created and executive produced by Mark Burnett & Roma Downey will cover the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, including stories from Noah’s Ark and the Exodus to Daniel in the Lion’s Den to the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. Downey is starring in the mini-series alongside Diogo Morgado, Sean Teale, David Rintoul, Amber Rose Revah, Peter Guinness, Greg Hicks and Simon Kunz.
