Hans Zimmer has recently composed the score for the upcoming historical drama Twelve Years a Slave. The film is directed by Steve McQueen amd stars Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Brad Pitt, Quvenzhané Wallis, Paul Dano, Scott McNairy, Sarah Paulson, Alfre Woodard, Paul Giamatti and Lupita Nyong’o. The movie is based on the autobiography Of the same title by Solomon Northup and centers on a free man who was kidnapped in 1841 and sold into slavery on a Louisiana cotton plantation. McQueen co-wrote the script with John Ridley (Red Tails). Dede Gardner (The Tree of Life, Eat Pray Love) is producing the New Regency Producctions and Plan B Entertainment production with Jeremy Kleiner (Killing Them Softly) and Brad Pitt. Knitting Factory has released a soundtrack album for the thriller The Reluctant Fundamentalist. The album features the film’s original score composed by Michael Andrews (Donnie Darko, Bridesmaids), as well as several songs featured in the film by artsist including Amy Ryan, Atif Aslam and Zahra Khan. Terence Blanchard has been tapped to score the upcoming musical drama Black Nativity. The film is directed by Kasi Lemmons and stars Forest Whitaker, Angela Bassett, Jennifer Hudson, Tyrese Gibson, Jacob Latimore, Nas, Mary J. Blige and Luke James. The movie is based on the gospel musical by Langston Hughes that was first performed on Broadway in 1961 and follows a street-wise teen from Baltimore who is sent to New York City by his single mother to spend the Christmas holiday with his estranged relatives. Lemmons has adapted the material for the screen and Bill Horberg (The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Kite Runner) is producing the project with Celine Rattray (The Kids Are All Right, Bernie), Galt Niederhoffer (The Romantics, Robot & Frank) and Daniela Taplin Lundberg (The Kids Are All Right). ATO Records will release a new soundtrack album for HBO’s hit series True Blood. Christopher Lennertz has been hired to score the upcoming action comedy Ride Along. The film is directed by Tim Story (Fantastic Four, Barbershop) and stars Kevin Hart, Ice Cube, John Leguizamo, Bruce McGill, Laurence Fishburne, Tika Sumpter, Bryan Callen and Jay Pharoah. The movie centers around a high school security guard and aspiring police officer who must survive a nightmarish 24-hour patrol “ride along” with his fiancee’s cop brother who disapproves of the marriage. Ice Cube and Matt Alvarez (Are We There Yet?) are producing the project for CubeVision, alongside Will Packer (Obsessed, Stomp the Yard) for Rainforest Films and Larry Brezner (Arthur, The ‘Burbs). Pathé Production has released a soundtrack album for the French romantic comedy It Happened in St. Tropez (Des gens qui s’embrassent). The album features the film’s original score written by Academy Award-winning composer Stephen Warbeck (Shakespeare in Love, Quills). Also included are several other songs and classical pieces featured in the movie, including Frank Sinatra’s It Happened in Monterey. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon. It Happened in St. Tropez is written and directed by Danièle Thompson and stars Kad Merad, Monica Bellucci, Eric Elmosnino, Valérie Bonneton, Max Boublil, Lou de Laâge, Clara Ponsot abd Ivry Gitlis. Premiering on Wednesday, May 1, is the new comedy Family Tools created by Bobby Bowman (Raising Hope, My Name Is Earl) based on the British sitcom White Van Man and starring Kyle Bornheimer, J. K. Simmons, Johnny Pemberton, Edi Gathegi, Leah Remini and Danielle Nicolet. tomandandy (Resident Evil: Afterlife, The Mothman Prophecies) have composed the show’s score and Matt Mariano (Raising Hope) has also contributed music for the show. Bowman is executive producing the ABC Studios production with Joshua Sternin & J.R. Ventimilia (That ‘70s Show, Rio) and Mark Gordon (Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds).
