unbrokenAlexandre Desplat has been tapped to score the upcoming World War II drama Unbroken. The film marks the second directorial effort of Angelina Jolie and stars Jack O’Connell, Garrett Hedlund, Domhnall Gleeson, Jai Courtney and Finn Wittrock. The movie is based on the book Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hildebrand and tells the true story of Lou Zamperini who was a Los Angeles high school track star who raced in the 1936 Berlin Olympics and whose Air Force plane crashed in the Pacific in 1943, where he survived 47 days without food and water. Danny_Elfman_imageThe 21st Century Symphony Orchestra has announced that Danny Elfman will be attending a series of concerts this March at the KKL Luzern Concert Hall in Lucerne, Switzerland. On March 21, 2014, the concert Danny Elfman’s Music from the Films of Tim Burton will make its premiere in Switzerland. The event, which features the composer’s music for the director’s films such as BatmanNightmare Before Christmas, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, BeetlejuiceSleepy Hollow and Big Fish world premiered last year at London’s Royal Albert Hall and will also be performed in other cities this spring and summer, including Prague, Mexico City, Seattle and San Diego. On March 22 & 23, the KKL will host the world premiere performance of Elfman‘s original score for Burton’s Alice in Wonderland performed live to projection. Read the rest of this entry »

steven-priceEdgar Wright has announced on Twitter that he will be scoring the director’s upcoming comic book film adaptation of Ant-Man. The film will star Paul Rudd in the title role of Scott Lang/Ant-Man, the superhero who can change size via an invented substance and can communicate with insects. Michael Douglas will be portraying scientist Hank Pym and Michael Pena has also been cast in an undisclosed role. Wright has also co-written the screenplay with Joe Cornish (Attack the Block). Kevin Feige (Iron ManThe AvengersThorCaptain America) is producing the Marvel Studios production. Steven Price Wins BAFTA Award for ‘Gravity’

baftaSteven Price has received his first BAFTA Award for his score for Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity starring Sandra Bullock & George Clooney in the Original Music category. Price accepted the award in person at the British Academy Film Awards ceremony at the Royal Opera House in London. He was nominated alongside Hans Zimmer (12 Years a Slave), John Williams (The Book Thief), Henry Jackman (Captain Phillips) and Thomas Newman (Saving Mr. Banks). The composer has previously received the Critics’ Choice Movie Award and is also up for an Academy Award for his Gravity score. star-crossedPremiering tomorrow, February 17, is the new drama Star-Crossed created by Meredith Averill and starring Aimee Teegarden, Matt Lanter, Grey Damon, Natalie Hall, Malese Jow, Titus Makin, Jr., Chelsea Gilligan and Greg Finley. Gabriel Mann (Modern FamilyTwistedRectifyTrophy Wife) is composing the show’s original score. ernest-and-celestineMilan Records will release the soundtrack album for the Academy Award-nominated animated feature Ernest & Celestine in the U.S. The album features the film’s original score composed by Vincent Courtois, as well as the songs from the movie. The soundtrack will be released on March 11, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Ernest & Celestine is directed by Benjamin Renner, Vincent Patar & Stéphane Aubier and features the voice talent of Forest Whitaker, Mackenzie Foy, Lauren Bacall, William H. Macy, Megan Mullally, Nick Offerman and Jeffrey Wright. The movie centers on an unlikely friendship between a bohemian bear, Ernest, and a young mouse named Celestine. The show is created by Mike Judge (King of the Hill, Office Space), John Altschuler & Dave Krinsky (Blades of Glory) and stars T.J. Miller, Thomas Middleditch, Josh Brener, Lindsey Broad, Christopher Evan Welch, Amanda Crew, Angela Trimbur, Zach Woods and Kumail Nanjiani. The series follows a group of self-proclaimed sexless, classless geeks as they make their way through the quirky and hilarious world of young tech-entrepreneurship. Judge, Altschuler and Krinsky are also executive producing the project with Scott Rudin (The Social Network, No Country for Old Men, Captain Phillips), Michael Rotenberg (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Reign Over Me) and Tom Lassally (Stay, The To Do List). Four new movies are opening nationwide this week:

robocopAlready in theaters since Wednesday is the sci-fi action movie RoboCop directed by José Padilha and starring Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams and Samuel L. Jackson. Pedro Bromfman who previously scored Padilha’s Elite Squad movies has composed the film’s original score. The film is based on the New York Times bestseller by Terry McMillan (Waiting to ExhaleHow Stella Got Her Groove Back) and stars Whoopi Goldberg as Viola Price, the irascible matriarch who tries to create some order within her family after learning her next asthma attack might kill her. Ving Rhames, Mekhi Phifer, Anika Noni Rose and Kimberly Elise are co-starring. Stephen Tolkin is directing the drama and Shernold Edwards (Haven) has written the screenplay.
