Dario Marianelli to Score Laika’s ‘Kubo and the Two Strings’

Dario Marianelli has been hired to score the upcoming animated feature Kubo and the Two Strings. The film is directed by Laika president and CEO Travis Knight and features the voices of Matthew McConaughey, Charlize Theron, Rooney Mara, Ralph Fiennes, Brenda Vaccaro and Art Parkinson. The movie is set in mythical ancient Japan and centers around Kubo who lives a quiet, normal life in a small shoreside village until a spirit from the past turns his life upside down and he must locate a magical suit of armor once worn by his late father, a legendary Samurai warrior. Intrada Records has announced an expanded soundtrack album for the 1996 adventure thriller The Ghost and the Darkness directed by Stephen Hopkins and starring Michael Douglas and Val Kilmer. The album features the complete score from the film composed and conducted by Jerry Goldsmith (The Omen, Patton, Alien, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, L.A. Confidential), including previously unreleased music and alternate cues. The 2-CD set also includes the original 1996 soundtrack album for the Paramount Pictures and Constellation Films production. CSUN’s Annual Media Composition Studio Ensemble to Showcase the Music of Sean Callery

The CSUN Department of Music and the CSUN Studio Ensemble announced that this year’s Annual Media Composition Studio Ensemble Showcase will feature television and film composer Sean Callery. The Emmy Award-winning composer of such shows as 24, Homeland, Bones, Backstrom and Elementary recently won the Composer’s Choice Award for 2014 Composer of the Year at the ASCAP Film & Television Music Awards. The showcase will feature CSUN student orchestra musicians performing alongside L.A. studio professionals. The concert will include the premiere performance of Callery’s music for the 200th episode of Bones, which he co-composed with Jamie Forsyth and Julia Newmann.
