Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the comic book movie Justice League directed by Zack Snyder and starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Ezra Miller, Jason Monoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J.K. Simmons and Ciarán Hinds. The film’s original music is composed by Danny Elfman (BatmanSpider-ManAlice in Wonderland). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as tracks by Sigrid, The White Stripes and Gary Clark Jr. & Junkie XL. Click here for the full album details.

Also opening wide is the drama Wonder co-written and directed by Stephen Chbosky and starring Jacob Tremblay, Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson, Izabela Vidovic, Mandy Patinkin and Daveed Diggs. Marcelo Zarvos (FencesThe Good ShepherdThe AffairEnough Said) has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the original song Darker by Hannah Faye and other songs. Wayfind Records has released a soundtrack album for the indie thriller Sweet Virginia. The album features the film’s original music composed by Brooke Blair & Will Blair (Green Room, Blue Ruins, Wheelman, I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. Sweet Virginia is directed by Jamie M. Dagg and stars Jon Bernthal, Christopher Abbott, Imogen Poots and Rosemarie Dewitt. The movie follows a former rodeo star who unknowingly starts a rapport with a young man who is responsible for all of the violence that has suddenly gripped his small town. Grammy Award winner Nora Kroll-Rosenbaum (Stockholm, PennsylvaniaRegarding Susan Sontag) has been hired to score the upcoming dramatic thriller Painkillers. The film is directed by Roxy Shih (The Tribe) and stars Adam Huss, Madeline Zima, Grant Bowler, Debra Wilson and Mischa Barton. The movie follows a brilliant surgeon who, after a terrible car crash in which his son dies, is tormented by guilt. When his marriage starts to disintegrate, he soon finds out that the only thing that can ease his pain is the taste of human blood. Giles Daoust wrote the screenplay.  Read the rest of this entry »

Sony Masterworks will release the official soundtrack album for Steven Spielberg’s drama The Post. The album features the film’s original music composed by John Williams (Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Jaws, E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone). The soundtrack is set to be released physically on January 12, 2018 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. No word yet on a release date for the digital version. Nicholas Britell is reuniting with Adam McKay on the upcoming biographical drama Backseat. The film is written and directed by McKay and stars Christian Bale as Dick Cheney, alongside Amy Adams, Steve Carell, Sam Rockwell, Bill Pullman, Adam Bartley, Tyler Perry, Alison Pill and Lily Rabe. The movie chronicles Cheney’s rise to CEO of the multinational corporation Halliburton and finally becoming what some have called the most powerful U.S. vice president ever to hold office. McKay is also producing the project with Will Ferrell & Kevin Messick (Daddy’s Home) for Gary Sanchez and Brad Pitt & Dede Gardner (12 Years a Slave, Selma, World War Z) for Plan B. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album for the Russian fantasy adventure The Last Warrior (Posledni Bogatyr). The album features the film’s original music composed by George Kallis (The Black Prince, Albion: The Enchanted Stallion, 93 Days). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. The film is directed by Dmitry Dyachenko and stars Victor Chorinyak, Mila Sivatskaya, Ekaterina Vilkova and Elena Yakovleva. The movie, which marks Disney’s first local language production in Russia in almost a decade, was released in Russia last month and will be released in other international territories over the next couple of months. Marvel Music and ABC Studios will release a soundtrack album for Marvel’s new Netflix original series The Punisher. The album features selections from the show’s original music composed by Tyler Bates (Guardians of the Galaxy, 300, John Wick, Watchmen, Dawn of the Dead), including the composer’s main title theme. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, November 17 and will be available to download on Amazon. The Punisher is developed by Steve Lightfoot based on the Marvel Comic character and stars Jon Bernthal in the title role, alongside Ben Barnes, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Amber Rose Revah, Deborah Ann Woll, Daniel Webber, Jason R. ‘Plus One’ to Feature Original Songs by Real Estate

The indie rock band Real Estate will be contributing original songs to the upcoming romantic comedy Plus One. The film is written and directed by Andrew Rhymer & Jeff Chan and stars Jack Quaid, Maya Erskine, Ed Begley Jr, Perrey Reeves, Finn Wittrock, Rosalind Chao, Jon Bass and Beck Bennett. The movie centers on a a couple of friends in their 20s who help each other get through a parade of insufferable weddings. Ben Stiller, Nicholas Weinstock & Jackie Cohn are executive producing the project for Red Hour Films, alongside Dan Weinstein, Michael Schreiber & Amee Dolleman for Studio71. The full details of the soundtrack album for Joe Wright’s biographical drama Darkest Hour have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Dario Marianelli (Kubo and the Two StringsV for VendettaPaddington 2) who previously scored the director’s AtonementPride and Prejudice and Anna Karenina. Vikingur Olafsson is featured as the piano soloist on the composer’s score.
