Composer Cho Young-wuk is reuniting with director Park Chan-wook  on the new HBO limited series The Sympathizer. The show is based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same title and stars Hoa Xuande, Robert Downey Jr., Fred Nguyen Khan, Toan Le, Vy Le, Phanxine, Ky Duyen, Kieu Chinh, Alan Trong, Duy Nguyen and Sandra Oh. The 7-parter centers on the struggles of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his new life as a refugee in Los Angeles, where he learns that his spying days aren’t over. Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the dystopian war drama Civil War written and directed by Alex Garland and starring Kirsten Dunst, Cailee Spaeny, Wagner Moura, Nick Offerman and Stephen McKinley Henderson. The film’s original music is composed by Ben Salisbury & Geoff Barrow (Ex Machina, Devs, Luce, Annihilation, Archive 81, Men, HannaFree Fire). The 9-part sci-fi thriller centers on a physicist, professor and family man who — one night while walking home in Chicago — is abducted into an alternate version of his life and has to try to return to his reality amid the mind-bending landscape of lives he could have lived.
