Carter Burwell is reteaming with director Bill Condon on the upcoming drama The Good Liar. The film starring Helen Mirren, Ian McKellen, Russell Tovey and Jim Carter is based on the book of the same title by Nicholas Searle and follows a career con artist who can hardly believe his luck when he meets a well-to-do widow. Jeffrey Hatcher (The Duchess, Casanova) wrote the screenplay. Condon (Beauty and the Beast, Dreamgirls) is also producing the New Line Cinema and BRON Creative production with Greg Yolen.

Disasterpeace to Score ‘The Hole in the Fence’
Variety is reporting that Disasterpeace (aka Rich Vreeland) is set to score the upcoming Mexican thriller The Hole in the Fence. The film is directed by Joaquín del Paso (Maquinaria Panamericana) and follows a group of boys from a Catholic school from Mexico’s upper-class on a school trip, on which they find a disconcerting hole in the fence which protects their camp’s perimeter. No casting announcements have been made yet. Del Paso also co-wrote the screenplay with Lucy Pawlak and will produce the project with Fernanda de la Peza.
Marco Beltrami & Miles Hankins Scoring Jonathan Levine’s ‘Flarsky’
Marco Beltrami (Logan, 3:10 to Yuma, Scream, The Wolverine, World War Z) & Miles Hankins (Len and Company, Being Serena) have recently composed the original score for the upcoming comedy Flarsky. The film is directed by Jonathan Levine (50/50, The Wackness) and stars Seth Rogen, Charlize Theron, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Alexander Skarsgård, Randall Park, Bob Odenkirk and Andy Serkis. The movie follows a down on his luck journalist, who through a string of comedic circumstances catches the attention of the world’s most powerful woman and becomes an important part of her inner circle in her journey to become the first female president of the United States.
Thomas Newman Scoring Dome Karukoski’s ‘Tolkien’ Biopic
Thomas Newman is currently recording his score for the upcoming biographical drama Tolkien. The film is directed by Dome Karukoski (Tom of Finland) and stars Nicholas Hoult, Lily Collins, Tom Glynn-Carney, Craig Roberts and Colm Meaney. The movie tells the story of author J.R.R. Tolkien, author of the Lord of the Rings books, as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school and serves as a British soldier in World War I. David Gleeson and Stephen Beresford (Pride) wrote the screenplay.
Bruno Coulais to Score Jean-Paul Salome’s ‘La Daronne’
Bruno Coulais is attached to score the upcoming French crime comedy La Daronne. The film is directed by Jean-Paul Salome (Adventures of Arsene Lupin) and stars Isabelle Huppert. The movie is based on Hannelore Cayre’s novel of the same title and follows a French-Arabic translator working for the anti-drug squad in Paris. Salome and Cayre co-wrote the screenplay. Kristina Larsen (Farewell, My Queen, Diary of a Chambermaid) is producing the project for Les Films du Lendemain, alongside Jean-Baptiste Dupont (Point Blank, Me, Myself and Mum) for La Boetie Films.

Pedro Bromfman (Narcos, RoboCop, Elite Squad) has been tapped to score the upcoming comedy Poms. The film is directed by Zara Hayes (The Battle of the Sexes) and stars Diane Keaton, Jacki Weaver, Pam Grier, Alisha Boe, Phyllis Somerville, Charlie Tahan, Bruce McGill, Rhea Perlman and Celia Weston. The movie revolves around a a group of women who form a cheerleading squad at their retirement community. Shane Atkinson wrote the screenplay. Kelly McCormick (Atomic Blonde), Alex Saks (The Florida Project, Book Club), Andy Evans, Celyn Jones & Ade Shannon (Keepers) and Rose Ganguzza (Kill Your Darlings) are producing the project.

The film marks the feature directorial debut of producer Mark Amin (The Prince and Me, Good Kill) and stars Dayo Okeniyi, James Cromwell, Bruce Dern, Naturi Naughton, Ben Robson, Harry Lennix and Kat Graham. The movie tells the true story of Shields Green who, in 1859, escaped from a plantation and made a daring journey north where he met Frederick Douglass and John Brown and chose to fight to end slavery.

Martin Todsharow and Diego, Nora & Lionel Baldenweg have composed the original music for the upcoming drama Head Full of Honey. The film is directed by Til Schweiger and stars Nick Nolte, Matt Dillon, Emily Mortimer, Sophie Lane Nolte, Jacqueline Bisset and Eric Roberts. The movie is based Schweiger’s 2014 German hit drama Honig im Kopf and follows a girl as she tries to help her grandfather who is suffering from Alzheimer’s, to navigate his forgetfulness.

The film is directed by Joe Berlinger (Brother’s Keeper, Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2) and stars Zac Efron as Ted Bundy, alongside Lily Collins, Kaya Scodelario, John Malkovich, Haley Joel Osment, Jim Parsons, Terry Kinney and Dylan Baker. The movie tells the story of serial killer Ted Bunny from the perspective of his girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer, who struggled to accept the reality of her boyfriend’s nature. Michael Werwie wrote the screenplay.

Tamar-kali is reuniting with director Dee Rees on the upcoming drama The Last Thing He Wanted. The movie is based on the 1996 novel of the same title by Joan Didion and stars Anne Hathaway, Ben Affleck, Toby Jones, Rosie Perez, Willem Dafoe, Edi Gathegi and Mel Rodriguez. The movie centers on a journalist who finds herself on dangerous ground as the Iran Contra Affair’s arms for drugs plot reaches its tipping point. Rees (Pariah, Bessie) also co-wrote the screenplay with Marco Villalobos and is also producing the project with Cassian Elwes (Lee Daniels’ The Butler, The Paperboy).
