Composer Blake Neely is reteaming with director Ryan White on the upcoming documentary Ask Dr. Ruth. The film chronicles the incredible life of Dr. Ruth Westheimer, a Holocaust survivor who became America’s most famous sex therapist, as she revisits her painful past and her career at the forefront of the sexual revolution. White is also producing the project with Rafael Marmor, Jessica Hargrave and Christopher Leggett (Becoming Bond). Neely and White have previously collaborated on 2014’s The Case Against 8 and last year’s Netflix docu-series The Keepers.

The film is directed by Michael Tyburski and stars Peter Sarsgaard, Rashida Jones, Tony Revolori and Austin Pendleton. The movie revolves around a successful “house tuner” in New York City, who calibrates the sound in people’s homes in order to adjust their moods, as he meets a client with a problem he can’t solve.
Mychael Danna to Score Bart Freundlich’s ‘After the Wedding’
Mychael Danna (Life of Pi, Moneyball, Capote, The Good Dinosaur) has been hired to score the upcoming drama After the Wedding. The film is written and directed by Bart Freundlich (Trust the Man, The Rebound) and stars Julianne Moore, Michelle Williams, Billy Crudup and Abby Quinn. The movie is based on the Academy Award-nominated 2006 feature by Susanne Bier and centers on a woman – seeking funds for her orphanage in India – who travels to New York to meet a wealthy benefactor. Joel B. Michaels (Stargate, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines) and Harry Finkel are producing the project.
Lucas Vidal Scoring Alice Waddington’s ‘Paradise Hills’
Lucas Vidal is composing the music for the upcoming fantasy drama Paradise Hills. The film is directed by Alice Waddington and stars Emma Roberts, Danielle Macdonald, Awkwafina, Eiza González, Milla Jovovich and Jeremy Irvine. The movie follows a young woman who is sent to Paradise Hills to be reformed, only to learn that the high-class facility’s beautiful facade hides a sinister secret. Nacho Vigalondo (Colossal, Timecrimes) and Brian DeLeeuw (Some Kind of Hate, Curvature) wrote the screenplay. Adrian Guerra (Buried, Grand Piano) and Núria Valls are producing the project.

Jeff Beal (House of Cards, Monk, Appaloosa, Rome, Carnivale, Ugly Betty) is scoring the upcoming documentary Mike Wallace Is Here. The film is directed by Avi Belkin and centers on 60 Minutes newsman Mike Wallace who went head-to-head with the world’s most influential figures for half a century. The movie tracks Wallace’s storied career and troubled personal life while unpacking how broadcast journalism evolved to today’s precarious tipping point. Belkin is also producing the project with Rafael Marmor, John Battsek (How I Live Now, Studio 54), Peggy Drexler and Christopher Leggett (Becoming Bond).

Composer Mark Isham (Crash, Once Upon a Time, A River Runs Through It, The Accountant) is reteaming with John Ridley on the upcoming time travel drama Needle in a Timestack. The film is written and directed by Ridley (12 Years a Slave, Guerrilla) and stars Orlando Bloom, Freida Pinto, Leslie Odom Jr., and Cynthia Erivo. The movie is based on a short story by Robert Silverberg and follows a couple struggling to hold their marriage together in a world where time travel is possible, and the past and present are ever fluctuating. Zanne Devine (Easy A), David Thwaites (What to Expect When You’re Expecting, Miss Potter), Aaron L. Gilbert (Tully, A Single Shot) and Matt Kennedy are producing the BRON Studios production.

The show is written and created by Bash Doran (Outlaw King, The Looming Tower) and stars Michael Stuhlbarg, Matt Lauria, Brandon P. Bell, Emma Appleton, Luke Treadaway, Keeley Hawes and Stephen Campbell Moore. The spy thriller revolves around Feef Symonds, a bold 20-something woman who joins the Civil Service in 1945, just as the Labour party sweeps to victory, defeating Winston Churchill in an unexpected landslide.

Trevor Gureckis is currently scoring the upcoming movie adaptation of The Goldfinch. The film is directed by John Crowley (Brooklyn, Boy A) and stars Ansel Elgort, Nicole Kidman, Aneurin Barnard, Ashleigh Cummings, Sarah Paulson, Jeffrey Wright, Luke Wilson, Finn Wolfhard, Willa Fitzgerald, Oakes Fegley and Luke Kleintank. Last week, Bryce Dessner has recorded his score for the upcoming Netflix original movie The Pope. The film is directed by Fernando Meirelles (The Constant Gardener, City of God, Blindness) and stars Anthony Hopkins as Pope Benedict and Jonathan Pryce as Pope Francis, as well as Juan Minujín, Cristina Banegas and María Ucedo. The drama explores the relationship and opposing visions between two of the most powerful leaders in the Catholic Church, both of whom must address their own pasts and the demands of the modern world in order to move the church forward. Anthony McCarten (The Theory of Everything, Darkest Hour) wrote the screenplay.
