Theodore Shapiro (Ghostbusters, The Devil Wears Prada, Tropic Thunder, Marley & Me) has signed on to score DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming feature Trolls World Tour. The film is directed by Walt Dohrn (who co-directed the original 2016 Trolls movie) and stars Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake, as well as Rachel Bloom, Ozzy Osbourne, James Corden, Caroline Hjelt, Aino Jawo, Ron Funches and Kunal Nayyar. The movie follows Poppy and Branch as they discover that they are but one of six different Troll tribes scattered over six different lands devoted to six different kinds of music: Funk, Country, Techno, Classical, Pop and Rock.

Branford Marsalis to Score George C. Wolfe’s ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’
Netflix has announced today that Branford Marsalis is set to compose the music for the upcoming drama Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. The film is directed by George C. Wolfe (Lackawanna Blues) and stars Viola Davis, Chadwick Boseman, Glynn Turman, Colman Domingo and Michael Potts. The film is based on the award-winning play by August Wilson (Fences) and centers on Ma Rainey, the “Queen of the Blues,” as she makes a record in a studio in Chicago, 1927, when tensions boil between her, her white agent and producer, and bandmates.
Nima Fakhrara Scoring Matt Eskandari’s ‘Trauma Center’
Nima Fakhrara (The Signal, Detroit: Become Human, The Pyramid, The Girl in the Photographs, Crypto) has recently recorded his score for the upcoming dramatic thriller Trauma Center. The film is directed by Matt Eskandari (Victim, Game of Assassins) and stars Bruce Willis, Nicky Whelan, Steve Guttenberg and Catherine Davis. The movie follows a veteran policeman assigned to protect a former paramedic in the hospital who must fight to stay alive when the two corrupt cops she witnessed in a deadly crossfire come to hunt her down.
Brian Reitzell to Score Natalie Erika James’ ‘Relic’
Brian Reitzell (Hannibal, Friday Night Lights, 30 Days of Night, Stranger Than Fiction, Beginners) has been hired to score the upcoming horror drama Relic. The film is directed by Natalie Erika James and stars Emily Mortimer, Robyn Nevin and Bella Heathcote. The movie centers on three women – a daughter, mother and grandmother – who are haunted by a manifestation of aged dementia that takes over their family home. James also co-wrote the screenplay with Christian White.
Santigold to Compose Music for Dee Rees’ ‘The Kyd’s Exquisite Follies’
Deadline is reporting that singer/songwriter Santigold is set to compose the music for the upcoming musical fantasy The Kyd’s Exquisite Follies. The film is directed by Dee Rees (Mudbound, Pariah, Bessie) and centers on “a young musician who catapults herself from the anonymity of her hometown of Same Ol’, Same Ol’ to the bright lights and plastic sights of the fabled It City, in search of stardom”. Rees is also writing the screenplay and Cassian Elwes (Lee Daniels’ The Butler, The Paperboy, Elvis & Nixon) is producing the project.
Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans Scoring Alfonso Gomez-Rejon’s ‘The Current War’
Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans (Boy Erased, The Gift, Enemy, Martha Marcy May Marlene) have composed a new score for the drama The Current War. The film is directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) and stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Shannon, Katherine Waterston, Nicholas Hoult, Tuppence Middleton, Matthew Macfayden and Tom Holland. The movie is set in the late 1880s and centers on power titans Thomas Edison’s and George Westinghouse’s battle over the supply of electricity.
Eric Neveux to Score ‘SamSam’ Movie Adaptation
Eric Neveux (The Insult, The Attack, A Stork’s Journey, Zombillennium, Spirou & Fantasio’s Big Adventures) has been tapped to score the upcoming animated feature SamSam. The film directed by Tanguy de Kermel is based on the comic books created by Serge Bloch and the animated TV series of the same title and follows the title character as he is conscientiously seeking his first-ever superpower but is winding up empty-handed every time. Didier Brunner (The Triplets of Belleville, Ernest & Celestine) & Damien Brunner (Pachama, The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales…) and Gaëtan David (The Source) are producing the Folivari production.

Jim Dooley (Pushing Daisies, Obsessed, When a Stranger Calls, A Series of Unfortunate Events) is scoring the upcoming Netflix original movie Secret Obsession. The film is directed by Peter Sullivan (Jingle Belle, Wrapped up in Christmas) and stars Brenda Song, Mike Vogel and Dennis Haysbert. The thriller follows a young woman who suffers from amnesia after a brutal attack, but when her memories start coming back, she realizes she no longer knows who to trust.
James Edward Barker to Score Zackary Adler’s ‘The Courier’
James Edward Barker (Lean on Pete, Heist, Precious Cargo, Mara) has been tapped to score the upcoming action thriller The Courier. The film is directed by Zackary Adler and stars Gary Oldman, Dermot Mulroney and Olga Kurylenko. The movie follows a courier whose daily deliveries are interrupted when she discovers her latest package is a bomb aimed at the witness of a crime lord’s murder and embarks on a race against time to save the target from corrupt CIA agents and Russian mercenaries.

Composer Fil Eisler revealed in a recent interview with Popaxiom that he is currently scoring the upcoming drama Wander Darkly. The film is written and directed by Tara Miele and stars Sienna Miller and Diego Luna. The movie revolves around a couple who must navigate the aftermath of a devastating car crash. Lynette Howell Taylor (A Star Is Born, The Accountant) and Samantha Housman (6 Balloons) are producing the project for 51 Entertainment, alongside Shivani Rawat & Monica Levinson (Captain Fantastic, Trumbo) for ShivHans Pictures.
