George Fenton (Dangerous Liaisons, Groundhog Day, Anna and the King, Ever After, The Blue Planet) has composed the original music for the upcoming documentary Elizabeth. The movie marks the final film of late director Roger Michell (Notting Hill, Changing Lanes) who passed away last week and centers on the longest-lived and longest-reigning British monarch. The Free Range Films production is produced by Michell and Kevin Loader (The Death of Stalin, The Personal History of David Copperfield). Fenton has previously scored Michell’s last feature The Duke, which premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival and has been picked up for domestic distribution by Sony Pictures Classics for a release in 2022.

Netflix’s ‘Convergence: Courage in a Crisis’ to Feature Original Song by Michael Kiwanuka and Score by Patrick Jonsson
Michael Kiwanuka has recorded the original song Beautiful Life for the new Netflix documentary Convergence: Courage in a Crisis. The track is written and performed by the Grammy Award-nominated singer/songwriter and will be featured in the film directed by Academy Award winner Orlando von Einsiedel (The White Helments, Virgunga) who spotlights a cross-section of global citizens in the COVID-19 crisis. A first clip from the song is featured in the trailer embedded after the jump. The director’s regular composer Patrick Jonsson (Black Earth Rising, On Her Shoulders) has written the original score for the movie, which spans eight countries and nine individual stories and reveals the power of compassion and community in the face of a crisis.
Randy Edelman to Score Anthony & Claire Bueno’s ‘Too Hot to Handle: Remembering Ghostbusters II’
Randy Edelman (Dragonheart, The Last of the Mohicans, xXx, Gettysburg Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, Kindergarten Cop, While You Were Sleeping) has been hired to score the upcoming documentary Too Hot to Handle: Remembering Ghostbusters II. The film is directed by Anthony & Claire Bueno (Cleanin’ Up The Town) and centers on the making-of the 1989 sequel. The movie will feature interviews with director/producer Ivan Reitman, stars Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson & Sigourney Weaver, producers Joe Medjuck & Michael C. Gross and ILM’s Dennis Muren. Claire Bueno is also producing the project and Laurence Gornall is executive producing for Unannounced Films.
Natalie Holt to Score Adil El Arbi’s & Bilall Fallah’s ‘Batgirl’
Natalie Holt (Loki, Journey’s End, Herself, Knightfall, Beecham House, Press) has announced that she is set to compose the music for the upcoming HBO Max original movie Batgirl. The film is directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys for Life) and stars Leslie Grace in title role of Barbara Gordon. J. K. Simmons is attached to star as Commissioner James Gordon. No plot details have been announced yet. Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey, Bumblebee) wrote the screenplay based on the DC characters. Kristin Burr (Cruella, Dora and the Lost City of Gold) is producing the Warner Bros. Pictures production.
John Paesano Scoring Disney+’s ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ Animated Movie
John Paesano (Daredevil, The Maze Runner, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, Invincible, When the Game Stands Tall, The Star) has composed the original music for the upcoming Disney+ original movie Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The animated feature is directed by Swinton Scott and features the voices of Brady Noon, Ethan William Childress and Chris Diamantopoulos. The film is based on the first book in Jeff Kinney’s bestselling book series and follows Greg Heffley, a scrawny but ambitious kid with an active imagination and big plans to be rich and famous as he tries to survive middle school.
Jay Wadley Scoring Benjamin Cleary’s ‘Swan Song’
Jay Wadley (I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Indignation, I Carry You with Me, Driveways, Olympic Dreams) has been tapped to score the upcoming dram Swan Song. The film written and directed by Benjamin Cleary (Stutterer) and stars Mahershala Ali, Naomie Harris, Glenn Close, Awkwafina and Adam Beach. The movie is set in the near future and centers on a loving husband and father who gets diagnosed with a terminal illness and is being presented with a controversial alternative solution to replace himself with a carbon copy clone.
John Debney Scoring the Erwin Brothers’ ‘American Underdog’
John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, The Jungle Book, Iron Man 2, Elf) has recently been recording his score for the upcoming biographical drama American Underdog. The film is directed by the Erwin Brothers (I Can Only Imagine, Woodlawn) and stars Zachary Levi, Anna Paquin and Dennis Quaid. The movie tells the true story of Kurt Warner who went from a stockboy at a grocery store to a two-time NFL MVP, Super Bowl champion, and Hall of Fame quarterback. Jon Erwin & David Aaron Cohen (Friday Night Lights, The Devil’s Own) and Jon Gunn (Mercy Streets) wrote the screenplay based on the book All Things Possible Kurt Warner and Michael Silver.
Heitor Pereira Scoring Netflix’s ‘My Little Pony: A New Generation’
Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me, Minions, The Angry Birds Movie, Smallfoot, The Smurfs, Beverly Hills Chihuahua) has composed the original score for the new Netflix animated film My Little Pony: A New Generation. The film is directed by Robert Cullen & José Ucha, co-directed by Mark Fattibene and features the voice talent of Vanessa Hudgens, Kimiko Glenn, James Marsden, Sofia Carson, Liza Koshy, Ken Jeong, Elizabeth Perkins, Jane Krakowski, Michael McKean and Phil LaMarr. The movie based on Hasbro’s My Little Pony franchise follows Sunny, an idealistic Earth Pony and Izzy, a curious Unicorn who must embark on an adventure that will take them to faraway lands to make new friends out of old enemies.

René G. Boscio (To Your Last Death, 30 Miles from Nowhere, Custody Road) has been hired to score the upcoming comedy thriller Emergency. The film is directed by Carey Williams and stars Sabrina Carpenter, RJ Cyler, Donald Elise Watkins, Sebastian Chacon, Maddie Nichols, Madison Thompson, Diego Abraham and Melanie Jeffcoat. The movie is based on Williams’ award-winning short film of the same title and follows a group of BIPOC college students, ready for a night of partying, as they weigh the pros and cons of calling the authorities when faced with an unusual emergency. KD Dávila wrote the Blacklist-honored screenplay.

Mark Korven (The Witch, The Lighthouse, Them, The Terror: Infamy, Cube, In the Tall Grass) has composed the original music for the upcoming Netflix original film No One Gets Out Alive. The movie is directed by Santiago Menghini and stars Cristina Rodlo, Marc Menchaca, David Figlioli, David Barrera and Moronke Akinola. The horror thriller is based on the novel by Adam Nevill (The Ritual) and follows an immigrant in search of the American dream who finds herself in a nightmare when she’s forced to take a room in a boarding house. Jon Croker (The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death, Desert Dancer) and Fernanda Coppel wrote the screenplay.
