Composer Nicholas Britell is set to reteam with director Adam McKay on the upcoming Netflix original film Don’t Look Up. The movie is written and directed by McKay (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, The Other Guys) and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett, Rob Morgan, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ariana Grande, Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Timothée Chalamet, Himesh Patel, Chris Evans, Mark Rylance, Scott Mescudi, Matthew Perry, Tomer Sisley, Tyler Perry, Melanie Lynskey, Ron Perlman and Michael Chiklis. The comedy tells the story of two low-level astronomers who must go on a giant media tour to warn mankind of an approaching comet that will destroy planet earth. McKay is also producing the project for Hyperobject Industries, alongside Kevin Messick (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Daddy’s Home 2). Britell (Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk, Battle of the Sexes) has previously scored McKay’s last two features, The Big Short and Vice, and is also scoring the McKay-produced HBO series Succession (which will return for a third season) and HBO’s upcoming Lakers drama. Don’t Look Up is expected to premiere in late 2021 on Netflix.
Britell also has Barry Jenkins’ Amazon limited series The Underground Railroad (premiering on May 14, 2021), as well as Benjamin Millepied’s Carmen coming up.
