Singer/songwriter Linda Perry (of the former rock band 4 Non Blondes) is the composer of the new Peacock original series Punky Brewster. The show is developed by Steve & Jim Armogida (School of Rock) based on the classic 80s sitcom and stars Soleil Moon Frye and Cherie Johnson who reprise their roles from the original series. They are joined by new cast members Freddie Prinze Jr., Quinn Copeland, Noah Cottrell, Oliver De Los Santos and Lauren Lindsey Donzis. The comedy follows Punky, who is now a single mother of three, as she is trying to get her life back on track when she meets a young girl in the foster system who reminds her a lot of her younger self. Steve and Jim Armogida are also executive producing the UCP and Universal Television production with original series creator David Duclon (Family Matters, Malcolm & Eddie) and Jimmy Fox (United Shades of America). Punky Brewster will premiere tomorrow, February 25 exclusively on Peacock.
Perry has previously composed her first solo score for last year’s documentary Citizen Penn and also co-wrote original songs for 2018’s Dumplin‘, for which she received a Golden Globe nomination. She has also recently scored the Hulu original documentary Kid 90 directed by Soleil Moon Frye who carried a video camera everywhere she went documenting her group of friends as they grew up in Hollywood and New York City. The film will premiere on March 12, 2021 on Hulu.
