Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Guaranteed to top the weekend box office is the horror thriller It directed by Andrés Muschietti and starring Jaeden Lieberher, Wyatt Oleff, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Jack Dylan Grazer, Chosen Jacobs, Nicholas Hamilton and Bill Skarsgård. The film’s original music is composed by Benjamin Wallfisch (Annabelle: Creation, Hidden Figures, Blade Runner 2049, A Cure for Wellness). Also opening wide is the romantic comedy Home Again written and directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer and starring Reese Witherspoon, Pico Alexander, Nat Wolff, Jon Rudnitsky, Michael Sheen, Candice Bergen and Lake Bell. John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, The Jungle Book, Elf, Iron Man 2) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. Opening in limited release is the drama Rebel in the Rye written and directed by Danny Strong and starring Nicholas Hoult, Kevin Spacey, Sarah Paulson, Zoey Deutch, Hope Davis and Victor Garber. The film’s original music is composed by Bear McCreary (10 Cloverfield Lane, The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica, Colossal, Outlander). Opening in around 400 theaters is the drama 9/11 co-written and directed by Martin Guigui and starring Charlie Sheen, Whoopi Goldberg, Gina Gershon, Luis Guzman and Wood Harris. Jeff Toyne (Rogue, Dirty Girl, Blooded, Hot Bot, How to Plan an Orgy in a Small Town) has composed the film’s original music. Also opening in limited release is the fantasy drama Fallen directed by Scott Hicks and starring Addison Timlin, Jeremy Irvine, Harrison Gilbertson, Hermione Corfield and Joely Richardson. The film’s original music is composed by Mark Isham (Crash, The Accountant, Once Upon a Time, A River Runs Through It, Nell). No word yet on a soundtrack release. movie based on the YA novel by Lauren Kate follows an ordinary teen girl who is sent to a mysterious reform school for misfit and eclectic teenagers. The movie is being released by Vertical Entertainment.
Also opening in select cities is the sci-fi thriller Rememory co-written and directed by Mark Palansky and starring Peter Dinklage, Julia Ormond, Martin Donovan, Anton Yelchin, Henry Ian Cusick and Evelyne Brochu. Gregory Tripi (Manhunt: Unabomber, Dark Places) has composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Another limited release this week is the documentary Trophy directed by Shaul Schwarz & Christina Clusiau about the powerhouse industries of big-game hunting, breeding and wildlife conservation in the U.S. and Africa. The film’s original music is composed by Jeremy Turner (Five Came Back, A Birder’s Guide to Everything) and Erick Lee. Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans (The Gift, Enemy) also contributed music to the film. The documentary premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being released by the Orchard.
