Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid directed by Rob Marshall and starring Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Melissa McCarthy, Javier Bardem, Jacob Tremblay, Daveed Diggs and Awkwafina. The film’s original score is composed by Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Enchanted) and the movie’s songs are written by Menken, Howard Ashman and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Walt Disney Records has released two soundtrack albums: a regular edition featuring all the songs and five tracks from Menken’s score (click here for the full details) and a deluxe edition featuring the songs and Menken’s full score (click here for more information).
Also opening wide is the action comedy The Machine directed by Peter Atencio and starring Bert Kreischer, Mark Hamill, Stephanie Kurtzuba, Jimmy Tatro, Jess Gabor and Iva Babić. Joseph Trapanese (The Witcher, Oblivion, Shadow and Bone, The Greatest Showman, Straight Outta Compton) has composed the film’s original music. Also opening nationwide is the comedy About My Father directed by Laura Terruso and starring Sebastian Maniscalco, Robert De Niro, Anders Holm, Brett Dier, Leslie Bibb, David Rasche and Kim Cattrall. The film’s original music is composed by Stephanie Economou (Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok, Jupiter’s Legacy, The Chair, Step Up, Manhunt: Deadly Games). Lionsgate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Another movie opening nationwide is the action thriller Kandahar directed by Ric Roman Waugh and starring Gerard Butler, Navid Negahban, Travis Fimmel, Ali Fazal and Elnaaz Norouzi. David Buckley (The Good Wife, The Sandman, The Forbidden Kingdom, Papillon, Nobody, The Stranger) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. Also opening wide is the comedy drama You Hurt My Feelings written and directed by Nicole Holofcener and starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Tobias Menzies, Michaela Watkins, Owen Teague and Arian Moayed. The film’s original score is composed by Michael Andrews (Donnie Darko, Neighbors, Me and You and Everyone We Know, Bridesmaids, Daddy’s Home). No word on a soundtrack release. Opening in around 200 theaters is the action thriller The Wrath of Becky written and directed by Matt Angel & Suzanne Coote and starring Lulu Wilson, Seann William Scott, Angel himself, Courtney Gains, Michael Sirow, Aaron Dalla Villa, Denise Burse, Jill Larson and Kate Siegel. Nima Fakhrara (Lou, The Signal, Detroit: Become Human, Alone, The Pyramid, The Girl in the Photographs) who previously scored 2020’s original Becky has composed the film’s original music.
