The 5-part drama, which centers on an indomitable, young slave who works on a sugarcane plantation with her detestable mistress, premiered in the UK in 2018 on BBC One and is making its domestic debut as part of PBS’ Masterpiece series.
Premiering in the U.S. tomorrow, February 1, is the Scandinavian limited series The Investigation directed by Tobias Lindholm and starring Søren Malling, Pilou Asbæk, Pernilla August, Rolf Lassgård, Laura Christensen, Anders Juul, Henrik Birch, Hans Henrik Clemensen, Dulfi Al-Jabouri and Charlotte Munck. Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen (Before the Frost) has composed the show’s original music. The 6-part drama, which explores the complex real-life investigation surrounding the 2017 murder of Swedish journalist Kim Wall, one of the most notorious criminal cases in Danish media history, is making its U.S. debut on HBO and will also be available to stream on HBO Max.
Premiering on Tuesday, February 2, is the HBO documentary Fake Famous directed by Nick Bilton and produced by Annabelle Dunne & Mary Recine about the meaning of fame and influence in the digital age. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Abels (Get Out, Us, Bad Education, All Day and a Night, See You Yesterday). Premiering on Wednesday, February 3, is the Netflix original series Firefly Lane created by Maggie Friedman based on Kristin Hannah’s novel of the same title and starring Katherine Heigl, Sarah Chalke, Ben Lawson, Ali Skovbye, Beau Garrett, Roan Curtis, Jon-Michael Ecker, Yael Yurman and Brendan Taylor. Premiering in the U.S. on Thursday, February 4, is the survival thriller series The Head created by Àlex Pastor & David Pastor and starring Tomohisa Yamashita, John Lynch, Alexandre Willaume, Katherine O’Donnelly, Laura Bach, Amelia Hoy, Katherine O’Donnelly, Chris Reilly, Richard Sammel and Tom Lawrence. The show’s original music is composed by Federico Jusid (The Secret in Their Eyes, Watership Down, Kidnap, Life Itself, Misconduct). Globomedia has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last summer when the drama premiered in various international markets. Premiering on Friday, February 5, is the Amazon original movie Bliss written and directed by Mike Cahill and starring Salma Hayek, Owen Wilson, Madeline Zima, Joshua Leonard and Nesta Cooper. Will Bates (Unbelievable, Away, I Origins, The Path, The Magicians, Another Earth) has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score on Friday.
