Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings, The Aviator, The Silence of the Lambs, The Departed, Hugo, The Hobbit) has revealed on the latest episode of Score: The Podcast that he has completed his score for the upcoming drama Funny Boy. The film directed by Deepa Mehta (Water, Earth, Fire, Beeba Boys) is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Arjie Chelvaratnam and tells the story a young boy coming to terms with his sexual identity just as political tensions escalate in Sri Lanka in the years leading up to the 1983 riots. Chelvaratnam also wrote the screenplay. David Hamilton (Bollywood/Hollywood, Heaven on Earth) and Hussain Amarshi are producing the project. Funny Boy is set to premiere in 2021.
As previously reported, Shore has also recently scored Kornél Mundruczó’s Pieces of a Woman, which just premiered this week at the 2020 Film Festival and will also be shown at the Toronto Film Festival later this month.
