Four new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this week:
Opening in most theaters is the action adventure Pokémon Detective Pikachu directed by Rob Letterman and starring Ryan Reynolds, Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton and Ken Watanabe. The film’s original music is composed by Henry Jackman (Captain America: The Winter Soldier & Civil War, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, X-Men: First Class). Also opening wide is the comedy The Hustle directed by Chris Addison and starring Anne Hathaway, Rebel Wilson and Alex Sharp. Anne Dudley (The Full Monty, American History X, Poldark, Elle, The Crying Game) has composed the film’s original score. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening nationwide is the comedy Poms directed by Zara Hayes and starring Diane Keaton, Jacki Weaver, Pam Grier, Celia Weston, Rhea Perlman and Alisha Boe. The film’s original score is composed by Deborah Lurie (Dear John, An Unfinished Life, Footloose, Safe Haven, 9). No soundtrack album has been announced. Opening in around 1300 theaters is the biographical drama Tolkien directed by Dome Karukoski and starring Nicholas Hoult, Lily Collins, Tom Glynn-Carney, Craig Roberts and Colm Meaney. Thomas Newman (American Beauty, The Shawshank Redemption, Finding Nemo, Skyfall, Wall-E) has composed the film’s original music. Opening in limited release is the documentary The Biggest Little Farm directed by John Chester about two dreamers and their dog who build one of the most diverse farms of its kind in complete coexistence with nature. The film’s original music is composed by Jeff Beal (House of Cards, Rome, Monk, Carnivale, Ugly Betty, Appaloosa, Pollock). Also opening in select theaters following an awards-qualifying release this past December is the drama All Is True directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Branagh himself, Judi Dench and Ian McKellen. Patrick Doyle (Thor, Brave, Murder on the Orient Express, Sense and Sensibility, Rise of the Planet of the Apes) has composed the film’s original score. Also opening in limited release is the indie drama Charlie Says directed by Mary Harron and starring Matt Smith, Hannah Murray, Marianne Rendón, Sosie Bacon, Merritt Wever, Suki Waterhouse, Chace Crawford and Annabeth Gish. Keegan DeWitt (Hearts Beat Loud, I’ll See You in My Dreams, The Hero, Gemini, Divorce) has composed the film’s original score. No word yet on a soundtrack release. Also opening in select cities is the historical drama The Professor and the Madman starring Mel Gibson, Sean Penn, Eddie Marsan, Natalie Dormer, Jennifer Ehle, Steve Coogan, Stephen Dillane, Ioan Gruffudd and Jeremy Irvine. The film’s original music is composed by Bear McCreary (Godzilla: King of the Monsters, 10 Cloverfield Lane, The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica, Outlander). Another limited release this week is the indie drama All Creatures Here Below directed by Collin Schiffli and starring Karen Gillan, David Dastmalchian, Jennifer Morrison, John Doe, Richard Cabral and David Koechner. Ceiri Torjussen (The Canal, Big Ass Spider!, Jack Goes Home) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been released. Also opening in select U.S. theaters is the French thriller My Son (Mon garçon) directed by Christian Carlon and starring Guillaume Canet, Mélanie Laurent and Olivier De Benoist. The film’s original music is composed by Laurent Perez Del Mar (The Red Turtle, I Kill Giants). Nord-Ouest Films has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score back in 2017 when the movie opened overseas. Already playing in select theaters since this past Wednesday is the comedy Wine Country directed by Amy Poehler and starring Poehler herself, Maya Rudolph, Ana Gasteyer, Rachel Dratch, Paula Pell, Emily Spivey, Jason Schwartzman and Tina Fey. Wendy & Lisa (aka Wendy Melvoin & Lisa Coleman) (Heroes, Nurse Jackie, Dangerous Minds) have composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release.
