Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the comedy A Madea Family Funeral written, directed and produced by Tyler Perry who also stars in the movie with Cassi Davis and Patrice Lovely. Philip White (Boo 2! A Madea Halloween, Nobody’s Fool) has composed the film’s original score and Christopher Lennertz (Ride Along, Horrible Bosses, Lost in Space, Baywatch) has written the themes. Also opening wide is the psychological thriller Greta directed by Neil Jordan and starring Isabelle Huppert, Chloë Grace Moretz, Maika Monroe, Colm Feore and Stephen Rea. The film’s original music is composed by Javier Navarrete (Pan’s LabyrinthWrath of the TitansThe Devil’s Backbone). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by Julie London, Lucienne Delye, St. Vincent & others. Opening in limited release is the French drama Climax written and directed by Gaspar Noé and starring Sofia Boutella, Romain Guillermic, Souheila Yacoub, Kiddy Smile, Claude Gajan Maull, Giselle Palmer, Taylor Kastle and Thea Carla Schott. The movie doesn’t feature an original score. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring electronic music tracks by artists such as Cerrone, Marrs, Chris Carter, Neon, Dopplereffekt, Aphex Twin, Gary Numan & others. Opening in around 125 IMAX theaters is the documentary Apollo 11 before expanding to other theaters next week is the documentary Apollo 11 directed by Todd Douglas Miller about NASA’s most celebrated mission – the one that first put men on the moon, and forever made Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin into household names. Matt Morton (Dinosaur 13) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. The documentary premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being released by Neon. Also opening in limited release is the thriller The Wedding Guest written and directed by Michael Winterbottom and starring Dev Patel, Radhika Apte and Jim Sarbh.  The film’s original music is composed by Harry Escott (ShameHard CandyA Mighty Heart, Welcome to the Punch). Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in select theaters is the biographical drama Mapplethorpe co-written and directed by Ondi Timoner and starring Matt Smith, Marianne Rendon, John Benjamin Hickey and Mark Moses. Marcelo Zarvos (Fences, Wonder, The Affair, The Door in the Floor, Enough Said) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been released. Also opening in select cities is the drama Saint Judy directed by Sean Hanish and starring Michelle Monaghan, Leem Lubany, Common, Alfred Molina, Alfre Woodard, Peter Krause, Ben Schnetzer, Gabriel Bateman, Waleed Zuaiter and Mykelti Williamson. The film’s original music is composed by James T. Sale (Acts of Violence, Return to Zero). A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score is in the works. The movie premiered at last year’s Los Angeles Film Festival and is being released by Blue Fox Entertainment. Visit the official movie website for more details.

Opening in New York before expanding to more markets over the next couple of weeks is the coming-of-age drama Giant Little Ones written and directed by Keith Behrman and starring Josh Wiggins, Darren Mann, Taylor Hickson, Maria Bello and Kyle MacLachlan. Michael Brook (BrooklynInto the WildThe FighterThe Perks of Being a Wallflower) has composed the film’s original music. Also opening in limited release is the historical drama Cliffs of Freedom directed by Van Ling and starring Tania Raymonde, Patti LuPone, Kevin Corrigan, Jan Uddin, Billy Zane, Raza Jeffrey and Christopher Plummer. The film’s original music is composed by George Kallis (The Black Prince, Albion: The Enchanted Stallion, 93 Days). A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score will be announced soon. Also opening in select cities following its debut on DirecTV a few weeks ago is the horror thriller The Hole in the Ground written and directed by Lee Cronin and starring Seána Kerslake, James Cosmo, Simone Kirby, Steve Wall and James Quinn Markey. Stephen McKeon (Norm of the NorthPilgrimageQueen and Country) has composed the film’s original music. Another limited release this week is the action thriller We Die Young written and directed by Lior Geller and starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Elijah Rodriguez, Joana Metrass and David Casteneda. The film’s original music is composed by Erez Koskas. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score was released today by Filmtrax. Opening in select theaters while also premiering on Netflix today is the drama The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind directed by Chiwetel Ejiofor who also stars in the movie with Maxwell Simba, Aïssa Maïga, Lily Banda, Lemogang Tsipa, Philbert Falakeza, Joseph Marcell and Noma Dumezweni.
