Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the action sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle directed by Matthew Vaughn and starring Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, Halle Berry, Sir Elton John, Channing Tatum and Jeff Bridges. The film’s original music is composed by Henry Jackman (Captain America: The Winter Soldier & Civil War, X-Men: First Class, Kong: Skull Island) & Matthew Margeson (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Eddie the Eagle). Also opening wide is the animated feature The LEGO Ninjago Movie directed by Charlie Bean and features the voices of Dave Franco, Justin Theroux, Fred Armisen, Abbi Jacobson, Olivia Munn, Kumail Nanjiani, Michael Peña, Zach Woods and Jackie Chan. Mark Mothersbaugh (The LEGO Movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The Royal Tenenbaums, Thor: Ragnarok) has composed the film’s original music. Also opening nationwide is the horror thriller Friend Request directed by Simon Verhoeven and starring Alycia Debnam-Carey, William Moseley, Connor Paolo, Brit Morgan, Brooke Markham, Sean Marquette, Liesl Ahlers and Shashawnee Hall. The film’s original music is composed by Gary Go and Martin Todsharow. A soundtrack album featuring Go’s score was released overseas last year. Opening in limited release before expanding nationwide next weekend is the sports comedy drama Battle of the Sexes directed by Valerie Faris & Jonathan Dayton and starring Steve Carell, Andrea Riseborough, Sarah Silverman, Bill Pullman, Alan Cumming, Elisabeth Shue and Austin Stowell. Nicholas Britell (Moonlight, The Big Short, Free State of Jones) has composed the film’s original music. Opening in over 500 theaters is the drama Stronger directed by David Gordon Green and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Tatiana Maslany, Miranda Richardson and Clancy Brown. Another limited release this week is the indie drama Shot directed by Jeremy Kagan and starring Noah Wyle, Sharon Leal and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. The film’s original music is composed by Bruce Broughton (Silverado, Young Sherlock Holmes, Miracle on 34th Street, The Orville). No word on a soundtrack release. he movie revolves around three lives that are irrevocably changed when a gun is accidentally fired on a busy Los Angeles street. Also opening in select theaters is the documentary Bobbi Jene directed by Elvira Lind about American dancer Bobbi Jene in the aftermath of her decision to leave behind her position at the world-famous Batsheva Dance Company in Israel. Also opening in select cities and on VOD is the comedy Big Bear written and directed by Joey Kern and starring Pablo Schreiber, Joey Kern, Adam Brody, Tyler Labine, Zachary Knighton and Toby Huss. he film’s original music is composed by Anton Sanko (Rabbit Hole, The Possession, Big Love, Ouija). No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie follows a man who reluctantly has his bachelor party even though his fiancé just dumped him. The comedy is being released by Blue Fox Entertainment.
