Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the thriller Get Out written and directed by Jordan Peele and starring Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Bradley Whitford, Caleb Landry Jones and Catherine Keener. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Abels. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening wide is the animated feature Rock Dog directed by Ash Brennon and featuring the voices of JK Simmons, Luke Wilson, Eddie Izzard, Lewis Black, Kenan Thompson, Mae Whitman, Jorge Garcia, Matt Dillon and Sam Elliot. Rolfe Kent (Sideways, Up in the Air, Election, Legally Blonde, Wedding Crashers) has composed the film’s original score. Also opening nationwide is the action thriller Collide directed by Eran Creevy and starring Felicity Jones, Nicholas Hoult, Anthony Hopkins and Ben Kingsley. The film’s original score is composed by Ilan Eshkeri (Stardust, Layer Cake, Still Alice). IM Global Music has released a soundtrack featuring the composer’s score. Opening in limited release is the historical drama Bitter Harvest directed by George Mendeluk and starring Max Irons, Samantha Barks, Barry Pepper, Tamer Hassan and Terence Stamp. Benjamin Wallfisch (Hidden Figures, Lights Out, A Cure for Wellness) has composed the film’s original music. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in limited release is the animated feature My Life as a Zucchini directed by Claude Barras and featuring the voices of Will Forte, Nick Offerman, Ellen Page, Amy Sedaris, Erick Abbate, Romy Beckman and Ness Krell. The film’s original music is composed by Sophie Hunger. No word yet on a soundtrack release. The movie is one of the nominees in the Best Animated Feature category at this year’s Academy Awards. Also opening in select theaters is the documentary Kiki directed by Sara Jordenö. Divoli S’Vere wrote the film’s main theme, which was released as a digital single today. Visit Amazon to download the track. Kiki explores the competitive voguing scene in New York City, where gruelling contests offer an insight into the daily lives of LGBTQ youth of color. Also opening in select cities is the documentary Dying Laughing directed by Lloyd Stanton & Paul Toogood. The film’s original music is composed by Edward Shearmur (Cruel Intentions, Charlie’s Angels, Reign of Fire, Johnny English). The movie centers on the craft, creative process and complicated lives of stand-up comedians and features appearances by Jerry Seinfeld, Kevin Hart, Amy Schumer, Jamie Foxx and Garry Shandling. The documentary premiered at last year’s Los Angeles Film Festival and is being released in theaters and on VOD by Gravitas Ventures.
Another limited release this weekend is the thriller The Girl with All the Gifts directed by Colm McCarthy and starring Glenn Close, Gemma Arterton, Paddy Considine and Sennia Nanua. Cristobal Tapia de Veer (Utopia, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, National Treasure) has composed the film’s original music.
