The only movie opening nationwide this weekend is the action adventure sequel Jurassic World directed by Colin Trevorrow and starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Irrfan Khan, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy, BD Wong and Judy Greer. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Giacchino (Up, Inside Out, Star Trek, Lost). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. Opening in select cities before expanding nationwide over the next couple of weeks is the indie comedy drama Me and Earl and the Dying Girl directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon and starring Thomas Mann, Olivia Cooke, RJ Cyler, Nick Offerman, Molly Shannon, Jon Bernthal and Connie Britton. Brian Eno has composed the film’s music and Nico Muhly (The Reader, Margaret, Kill Your Darlings) has also provided original music. No word yet on a soundtrack album. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl follows a student who is coasting to senior year of high school as anonymously as possible and is forced by his mother to befriend a classmate with leukemia. Also opening in limited release is the drama Madame Bovary directed by Sophie Barthes and starring Mia Wasikowska, Paul Giamatti, Ezra Miller, Rhys Ifans, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Logan Marshall-Green and Laura Carmichael. The film’s original music is composed by Evgueni Galperine & Sacha Galperine (The Family, The Past). Also opening in select theaters is the sci-fi horror movie Debug written and directed by David Hewlett. Timothy Williams (Walking with the Enemy, Sym-Bionic Titan, Wild Horses) has composed the film’s original score. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. Debug follows six young computer hackers sent to work on a derelict space freighter, who are forced to match wits with a vengeful artificial intelligence that would kill to be human. The movie is being released by Ketchup Entertainment.
Also opening in limited release this weekend is the action thriller Vendetta directed by the Soska Sisters and starring Dean Cain, Michael Eklund, Kyra Zagorsky, Ben Hollingsworth and Big Show. The film’s original music is composed by The Newton Brothers (Oculus, Life of Crime, Detachment). No soundtrack album has been announced. Vendetta follows a hard-nosed detective who deliberately gets arrested in order to get revenge after his wife is killed by a criminal that he put away. The WWE Studios production is being released by Lionsgate.
