Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the action movie Mad Max: Fury Road directed by George Miller and starring Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Nathan Jones, Zoë Kravitz, Riley Keough, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Abbey Lee and Courtney Eaton. Tom Holkenborg (Junkie XL) has composed the film’s original music. Also opening wide is the musical comedy sequel Pitch Perfect 2 directed by Elizabeth Banks and starring Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Rebel Wilson, Alexis Knapp, Adam DeVine and Hailee Steinfeld. The film’s original score is composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (The Lego Movie, Hotel Transylvania, 21 Jump Street). Universal Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film, including the original track Flashlight written by Jessie J, as well as a track from Mothersbaugh’s score this past Tuesday. Opening in limited release is the indie comedy drama I’ll See You in My Dreams directed by Brett Haley and starring Blythe Danner, Martin Starr, June Squibb, Rhea Perlman, Mary Kay Place, Malin Akerman and Sam Elliott. Keegan DeWitt (Listen Up Philip, Land Ho!) has composed the film’s original music. No word yet on a soundtrack album. I’ll See You in My Dreams  follows a widow who has settled into her life and her age, until a series of events propel her into a renewed engagement with the people and the world around her. The dramedy premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and was picked up by Bleecker Street Films for domestic distribution. Also opening in select theaters is the indie drama Good Kill written and directed by Andrew Niccol and starring Ethan Hawke, January Jones, Jake Abel, Zoe Kravitz and Bruce Greenwood. The film’s original music is composed by Christophe Beck (Frozen, The Hangover, Edge of Tomorrow, Ant-Man, The Muppets). Also opening in limited release is the western Slow West written and directed by John Maclean and starring Michael Fassbender, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Ben Mendelsohn and Caren Pistorius. Jed Kurzel (The Babadook, Son of a Gun, Macbeth, The Snowtown Murders). has composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie by Werner, Bryan Michael Mills, Django Django & more. Also opening in select cities is the inspirational drama Where Hope Grows written and directed by Chris Dowling and starring Danica McKellar, Kerr Smith, Brooke Burns, Kristoffer Polaha, William Zabka and McKaley Miller. The film’s original score is composed by Kyle Newmaster. sonaBLAST! Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by artists such as The Pass, Kyle James Hauser, Kelley McRae, Max Gabriel and The Workers on June 9, 2015. Another limited release this week is the indie drama Animals directed by Collin Schiffli and stars David Dastmalchian, Kim Shaw, John Heard and John Hooganakker. Ian Hultquist (Ivory Tower) has composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie by artists including Pyramids, Wedding Dress, Barky and Speaker, Gay Panic, Moon Magick & more. Also opening in select theaters is the French crime thriller The Connection (La French) directed by Cédric Jimenez and starring Jean Dujardin, Gilles Lellouche, Céline Sallette and Benoît Magimel. The film’s original music is composed by Guillaume Roussel (3 Days to Kill, Outcast). Gaumont has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by The Velvet Underground, Sheila, Lykke Li, Blondie, Venus Gang, Al Wilson, Robert Moore, Kim Wilde & more last fall when the movie opened overseas. Also opening in select theaters and on VOD is the indie thriller Every Secret Thing directed by Amy Berg, written by Nicole Holofcener and starring Diane Lane, Elizabeth Banks, Dakota Fanning, Danielle Macdonald, Nate Parker and Common. The film’s original music is composed by Rob aka Robin Coudert (Maniac). No soundtrack album has been announced. Every Secret Thing follows two 11-year-old girls who are convicted of murdering a baby and incarcerated until they turn 18 when the police turn their attention to the duo as children start to go missing. The thriller premiered at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival and is being released by Starz Digital. Also opening in limited release is the western thriller Echoes of War directed by Kane Senes and starring James Badge Dale, Ethan Embry, William Forsythe, Maika Monroe, Rhys Wakefield, Beth Broderick, Ryan O’Nan and Owen Teague. Hanan Townshend (To the Wonder, Knight of Cups, The Better Angels) has composed the film’s original music.
