Opening in limited release is the sci-fi thriller Ex Machina written and directed by Alex Garland and stars Oscaar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson and Alicia Vikander. Ben Salisbury and Portishead’s Geoff Barrow have composed the film’s original music. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the score, as well as the song Bunsen Burner by The Cuts. Also opening in select cities is Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut Lost River starring Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan, Iain De Caestecker, Matt Smith, Eva Mendes and Ben Mendelsohn. The film’s original music is composed by Johnny Jewel (Bronson, Those Who Kill). Italians Do It Better has released a soundtrack album featuring Jewel’s score, the movie’s love theme by his band Chromatics, as well as tracks by Glass Candy, Larry Clinton, Desire, Sunset Four & more. Another limited release this week is the drama Desert Dancer directed by Richard Raymond and starring Freida Pinto, Reece Ritchie, Tom Cullen, Nazanin Boniadi and Makram J. Khoury. Benjamin Wallfisch (Dear Wendy, The Escapist, Hammer of the Gods) has composed the film’s original score, including the music for three extended dance sequences. Kill Me Three Times follows a mercurial assassin who discovers he isn’t the only person trying to kill the siren of a sun-drenched surfing town. The thriller premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and is being released by Magnolia Pictures’ Magnet Releasing in select theaters and on VOD. Another limited release this week is the drama Clouds of Sils Maria written and directed by Olivier Assayas and starring Juliette Binoche, Kristen Stewart, Chloë Grace Moretz, Brady Corbet, Johnny Flynn and Hans Zischler. The film doesn’t feature an original score, but several classical pieces throughout the film. No soundtrack album has been announced. Clouds of Sils Maria follows a veteran actress who comes face-to-face with a reflection of herself when she agrees to take part in a revival of the play that launched her career 20 years earlier. Opening in select IMAX theaters is the documentary Living in the Age of Airplanes directed by Brian J. Terwilliger and narrated by Harrison Ford. The film’s original music is composed by James Horner (Titanic, Avatar, Braveheart, A Beautiful Mind). A soundtrack album is expected to be released around the time of the movie’s home video release. Living in the Age of Airplanes tells the story about how the airplane has changed the world and how it affected our society.
